Hello,

So I started the car today without any problems and put some petrol in before work. Later on as I was leaving, I noticed the car sounded a lot different- esp when I accelerated. So when I got home, I opened the bonnet. It sounds significantly different to yesterday- there is a kind of a growling/deeper (almost like a racing car) aspect to the engine's sound particularly when I put my foot down on the gas.

There aren't any lights on on the dash and I haven't noticed any difference with performance. No idea what this could be as it's my first car.

It's a 2002 reg punto active- 31,000 miles. Can anybody think of any reasons from that vague description?

Also, is there anyone from manchester who could recommend a decent garage? Thanks in advance.

The other day, I was cleaning out my TB with some redex, and a couple of times it had a really deep sporty growl, which I did love. But after that it went back to normal.

Not quite sure. Maybe it's just an engine quirk .

if the sound comes from the engine then maybe the air filter case is not sitting right,
if comes from the exhaust then is some hole in it

Mine was doing this too, turned out the filter box clip wasnt locked properly.

Did it just come on suddenly? Is it something I can fix myself?
The sound is coming more from the front rather than the back.

Yeah I just removed the airbox and refitted it. The sound stopped.

ok I don't know what the airbox is, but I'll google it. if I have problems, I'll come back

The big black box on top of the engine where the air filter goes.

Or the flexy air pipe has popped off the throttle body.
