My car is nearing 28k now, and I've spotted the idle is pretty clanky. Not over the top, just not a nice note. Anyone else have the same problem with their same aged Punt?

Is it normal (bearing in mind it is a basic engine..)

Serviced about 4k ago, any way to improve it?

got same problem as you,
got 24k on the clock 51-reg and serviced last december .

my idle is just the same mate, 2000 mk2 1.2 8v. told by fiat it was not unusual, great help..........

Mine the same.When it gets bad I put a bottle of Injector Cleaner in to a full tank of Petrol. After a a decent run the car runs great but I do find the rough idle comes back after a few thousand miles.Time for more injection cleaner.Hope this helps. ...Bransby.

I think engine is old.

these engines use a "wasted spark" ie each plug fires at the top of the exhaust stroke as well as the top of the compression stroke; this is why there are two coils instead of four (and eliminates the need for a distributor); so the plugs only last half as long ...
try multielectrode plugs and change them every 5000m or as soon engine starts to sound rough......

I presume you are all carrying out a weekly check of all your levels.

my car does the sam mines done 60k miles and i serviced it with new filter/plugs etc and it seemed to have gone a little better but not 100% smooth

The miles are low, but the cam belt is 4 years past its change by date - could be its losing teeth.

If you have the same issues as me mate I think its supposed to be an ECU problem with our cars
Mine has done it ever since i've owned it from 21kmiles and i've really looked after it and then some. Its had everything you can think of done service wise. All I get most days is a slight miss at idle. It runs smashing everywhere else.
