hi,

got a mk2 punto 2002 1.2l 8v active 3dr

i had my airbag light on from last week came on after moved passenger seat fowards to let someone in back, didnt force seat or owt.

anyway i tryed to reset the airbag light but it just wnt reset error code keeps coming back on the diagnostics machine:bang:

i was then told that the cause of this was because the airbag wires has snapped and needs soldering back on as its a common problem with the 3dr mk2's

anyway is this true if so where are the wires?? i cant find any under the seat and i remember when i took a punto seat out at work there wer never any wires under it??

cheers
brin

What actual error code/text are you getting?

Do you have seatbelt pre-tensioners?

i cant remember the actuall code mate, im gonna have a go again tomoro at work and il wirte it down.

what is seatbelt pre-tensioners lol soz for bein dum lol

yes i have passenger airbags but like i sed problem happened when the seat was moved so im guessin the seat is connected somehow

Pre-tensioners are devices in the seat belt socket that pull on the belt in the event of a crash. In some systems this is triggered by the airbag control unit (there is an accelerometer in the control unit that detects the crash). However, I don't know whether any of the Punto models have pre-tensioners.

rubbish...you need to get the airbag ECU codes read, even if you did locate and fix the fault you still need to get the light put out or the system is still inactive.

i knowi just need to find the problem first to fix it, i tryed clearing but same problem comes back straight away as soon as you turn engine over.

if we could diagnose and fix cars over the internet there would be no garages!

As it stands;

1) your airbag system is NOT working
2) if you find the fault and fix it your airbag system is still NOT working
3) once a garage clears the (now repaired) error the light goes out, your airbag system IS NOW working.

Sorry mate but it needs diagnostic equipment.

right i re read the airbag eror code this time on a more advanced diagnostics machine at work,

i got the error sayin:

"Passenger Front Airbag Igniter Circuit

Circuit Open"

anyone know what problem is and how to fix it, i tryed to clear code but kept sayin unable to clear error remains even on this machine and airbag light still on.

fixed the problem tofay

after realising the punto doesnt actually have any wires under the seats i turned towards the passenger airbag in the dash, took glovebox out and fiddled with the wires then tryed to reset error code and it stayed off

looks like itsfixed for now probly loose connection dont get why it came on when i mover passenger seat then

Sounds like its time to get the airbag wiring mod fitted.

Won't prevent the error he had.... though it will prevent another common error. ;)

LOL'd at some of the helpful, but mis-informed ideas that keep being brought-up time and time again-

1. The "check the wiring under the seat" idea- Unless you've a top-spec Punto WITH SIDE AIRBAGS (panel on door-side bolster)... you ain't got them!

2. The "check the pretensioner wiring under the seat" idea- most mk2's only had front airbags, and even for those that did, the pretensioners operate on the seatbelt reel.... IN THE 'B' PILLAR. Without taking the trim off you won't see any wiring.

Brin- Whoever told you mk2's have issues with airbag connectors coming off and needing soldering is talking out of their backside. ;)
