i brought a W 1.2 elx punto on Wednesday just gone. everything worked fine until this morning i got into my car opened my drivers windows fine, but when it came to closing it, it just stuck and i waited a minute then tried again, it went up slower than usual and make a weird noise, like a rumbling/fart noise. I just tried it again and it only went half way down and stopped, and i closed it again and it make the weird noise... when fully closed it still tries and close :S. any one have any insight to what may be wrong?? Im am well disappointed as iv only had the car five days and its going wrong already :(

W means it's a 10 year old car, unfortunately things are likely to go wrong with it. No good being disappointed!

Sounds like you have a faulty motor unit or winder mechanism. If you're unsure about sorting it yourself probably best to take it into a reputable garage. Doing anything with it will involve taking the door card off and that's not so easy without the proper tools!

I hope you manage to get it sorted!

:( i was dreading someone saying it might be the motor.... just annoying how it was working perfectly find then boom i dont wana work anymore. what kind of prices would i be looking at??

Thanks

Yeah, cars are frustrating beasts, always going wrong when you least need/expect it!

I've not looked at motor prices for a while, I'd take the door card off and have a look first, it might be some kind of foreign object has found its way into the door, or something has jumped on the drive mechanism.

I would have thought that a second hand motor and drive mech could be sourced at a reasonable price from a scrappy, though you have the risk of a second hand item if you do that, it might break again in a day or two.

il shall have a look later or tomorrow. fingers crossed its just a foreign object!! well for a clio i know its around £50 so im guessing same for a punto. thanks for your help :D

Just had a quick nose around on the web and you can get a new, non OEM but decent brand, window regulator mech for around the £60 mark. So probably not worth worrying about a second hand unit unless funds are really tight, especially as it could well prove a false economy!

Take care removing the door card. Its best done with a proper split scraper/lever tool. Its all too easy to rip the plastic pegs out of the door card.

When you put it all back make sure the plastic lining is sealed up again with waterproof tape. Parcel tape etc looks ok but within a week or too will have split or fallen off and then damp will attack the door card.

its started on my other window now, so i had a look with help of my neighbour, and it looks like its the runners are worn :|.. any idea where i can get them from and how much?? I'v looked but can't find any... not all there me lol.

thanks everyone

Not sure you can get just the runners.

Have you tried a decent grease in the runners? Might just be that they have dried out a bit, and a good grease might free them up!

i sprayed a few bit of dw40 on them. i shall try something else like copper grease at the weekend. so im looking at a new mechanism then?? meh.. more money!! :(

Well, if you can find a scrappy that has a couple of doors, and he'll let you take the runners off, and you're handy with a drill and rivet gun then you could probably just do the runners.
