well guys just as i fort my car had got over all it problems then some think else has happen. it now stop going into 4th gear. now all the other gears are working fine. this is wot happen i was driving a long the road the came to some traffic with was red so i stop then whent to pull off and all was o.k untill i got to 4th gear and it would not go in so i pulled over and tryed to put it into 4th still would not go into gear. so any way i turn around and whent back home a.s.a.p......i phone the garage were i all ways take my hgt to and he said it more than likey the linkage has come lose is this right and can it happen.... im hoping some body on here could help me out please on wot it mite be as i dont really wont to be taking it to the garage and paying money when i can do it...........please some body help...:worship:

emmm....well my mate got a garage with a pit in it so will be driving the car over it then will be geting under to have a look to see if the linkage has come out........

Is this a HGT? If so it's often a build-up of swarf in the end casing blocking the selector. Easy to fix, jack up passenger side and remove end casing, clae out debris, refit. You may find it easier to remove the wheel for access and probably at least one bit of plastic, and have a tray ready to catch any gearbox oil in.

Mine did the same after the clutch was changed. Its behaving OK for now but I need to do the same job.

My HGT has also developed a water leak from the front of the engine but I can't locate the source - any ideas? (there's a new thread on this one).

whitesei....yes get the cover off and give it a good clean then gears will be better.....also i had a leak at the front of my hgt if you remember. it was coming from the little coolant pipe that sits on top of the oil filter. ther are to green pipes give them a check...may be them..

also im flushing my oil today along with new oil & filter, new plugs. im useing the (stp) oil flush and it saying on the bottle to warm the engine
first then poor the (stp) into the engine with the old oil then rev the car
at 2000rpm for about 15mins,, now im wondering if ther is a better way to
use this stuff as some time you dont wont to beleave wot thay say on the bottle..(ie) some one once told me to just drain my old oil out then stick the (stp) in but that dont sound right to me.

also is ther any good valve cleaner stuff i can put in as well. i do have some redex to put it the fual but the thing is with the redex you have to have a full tank to use the stuff...

I was looking at that stuff this morning. I'd just let it tick over but give it a blip now and then to splash the stuff around.

When I did the head on mine the valves were surprisingly clean so maybe little point in using a cleaner. Posh petrol might be the best bet - pays for itself in better economy and allegedly cleans the engine.

Modern cars lean-burn so valves don't normally get coked up like they did at one time. Engines can be 3/4 knackered and the valves will still be clean these days!
