I have a 3 year old Fiat Punto ELX 16v. After I've been driving for 5 minutes or so if I stop at a traffic light or something like that the car starts to make a strange sucking/hissing noise which goes away as soon as the car moves again.

Anyone any ideas what is causing this? I've only had the car since November so I'm not sure if its a winter problem or not.

Thanks.

Sounds like what i experienced with my old elx, may sound like a stupid question but does the noise go when you push the clutch in?

The noise doesn't go when I push the clutch in, but I'm beginning to suspect that I may have an ultra sensitive clutch which is causing it in the first place.

When it happens I've tried putting the clutch right down or coming off the clutch completely and going into neutral but it doesn't make any difference. However, as soon as the car starts to move, even if only at a crawl (in heavy traffic) the noise stops.

Did you ever get to the source of what caused it with your old ELX?
