Hi, can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a Punto 53 lowered when 17" wheels have already been added ?
I have had the Front/Rear bumpers & sideskirts fitted and have also changed the original 14" for 17's.
I have asked 2 autofactor shops and both have told me I will be unable to have the car lowered unless I swap my wheels for smaller ones.

Can anyone tell me if and where I can get it done.

Thanks
Nikki :bang:

Is there a sticky about this in the Punto section? If not I think there should be ;)

All mk2/mk2.5 Puntos can be lowered with 17s fitted. Anymore then 50mm though, there might be a -bit- of scrubbing when the car's heavy.

Ive got my mk2 lowered 35mm and it looks ok, but im really looking for a 50mm spring kit. Where did you purchase the 50mm springs (punto 1.2 motorsport)?? also how much were they to buy? cheers matey

Im pretty sure the springs are made by PI, you can get them Here

a basic guide.

Fronts
Wheels off.
Car on axel stands.
Unclip any hosing from the strut (brake lines etc).
Disconnect any anti roll bars.
Get the bottom of the strut out of the hub housing (easier said than done on some cars- my Fabia  Punto was easy).
Undo the bolts at the top of the strut- under the bonnet.
Take out the whole strut with spring.
Compress the spring and remove the bolt holding the spring in. This is usually dead tight so I got local Kwik Fit type garage with a whizzy gun to undo it for a fiver.
Swap springs over, cut bump stops (if required) and tighten up the top nut
Re-fit the whole unit back where it came from.

Backs
Get the car on axel stands, use a trolley jack and raise the trailing arm to take the strain off the shocks. Undo the bolt holding the shock on and lower the trolley jack slowly making sure brakelines arent being pulled down with it. The spring should come out on its own, but might need a spring compressor on it. Then stick the new spring in, trim the bumpstop and do everything back up!

hi ive done my girlfriends mk2 with custom made springs and thats on 17s with 3mm spacers on the rear and thats dropped 70mm at the rear and 60mm at the front and it looks ace took a bit of doin but well worth it tho mate

ive got 17s on my mk2 but havent got round to lowering it yet. i was going to do it 40mm all round but someone told me it will scrub like a mofo and may need to get my arches rolled, etc bla bla bla! is he just being a pr*ck or is he right? also i was unsure weather to go for a full shocks and springs kit or just the springs, i know that just buying the springs will save me alot of money but wont my shocks give way after a while?

You can drop it to 50mm and get a set of 17s on. You will need some wheel spacers 3mm maybe 5mm. You can use standard dampers but they will need replacing.

thats good to hear! but if i put 3 or 5mm spacers will my wheels rub on the arches, as they look kinda close already??

There shouldnt be any rubbing might have a bit when the car is heavy. If you have alot of speed bumps in your area then a 50mm drop will be a killer.

nice 1, ill get ordering the kit then and ill let you know how it goes. hopefuly smoothly, but nothing ever seems to be simple for me! thanks guys (y)

I got a mk2b with the pi 50mm suspension kit hardly ever have a full load in my car 2 passengers max and nothing in the boot maybe a sub and amp in future.

Im looking at 17's with 215/40 tyres will this be ok i i will be gettign wobbly bolts of course does all this sound ok like no problems ?

hiya i was wondering if the punto sporting mk2 is fast? wots top speed and 0 to 60? cheers :)

Personally i think 17's look a tad O.T.T, but each 1 for themsekves i suppose :D Mines been dropped 50mm and it's still on the standard 15" i would consider a 16" but a 17" will rub like no tomorrow.... another thing how low do you want to go... 35mm should be ok

OK so you most of you have 17's on your punto's, i have a set of 15, im not interested in getting bigger wheels, im just interested in low low can i go and still be using the standard shocks? could i use 50mm drop springs on standard shocks? Please Help!!!
