I was just pulling out of a parking space, felt a slight thud on the steering whilst I had the steering in full lock. Then it felt like the steering power had gone completely and the red warning light is on the dashboard. Any ideas what it is? I have a 2001 punto. Many thanks x

My steering light comes on occassionally, when you turn the engine off, and then back on, does the steering light dissapear? If so it could be a battery related issue.

Also 8v or 16v? what model? Active?, Sporting?, HGT? or none? Might be helpful to include.

It's a 1.2 - 3 door - Mia. Don't think it's the battery tho, as I've not long replaced it with a new battery. I've tried turning on the ignition a couple times but light still on and steering very stiff. I'm sick - just passed it's MOT yesterday with not a single problem. I'm it's second owner and it's only done 60k miles. Thanks for getting back to me x

The light will only go off if the engine is running.

Is it only the EPS light that is on, or is the ignition light on too?

As Daft as it sounds
Just popping off the Steering Coloum covers and the Metal Plate held on with 3 12mm? bolts

Pull All the connectors off the ECU - So there is nothing
I then started my engine - switched off - reconnected everything and my issue was cleared

Mine was a solid light - on everytime i started engine
Its common for a connector to become loose and it stops the Steering from working
