Dears,
I have a 53 model punto, car runs fine for short distances and I haven't driven more than 30 miles on a day. I need to travel for about 320 miles tomorrow (160 each way) and I am unsure on whether I should take this car? Also, does any one know how long can a punto be driven non-stop?
what should I check apart from air, water, oil before setting off?

Punto mk1 1.1, I can easily do 450 miles on one tank if I keep it sub-65 MPH. You should check coolant level, oil level, tyre depth, tyre pressure (adjusting appropriately if you are carrying more weight) and top up the screen wash.

Yes it should be fine
As mikey said above, make sure you check the essentials and carry some extra water as then if you run out of screenwash - you've got water atleast to keep you going, and water for the radiator should it drink any (not that it should as that usually indicates a problem)

One thing you should do also is check the tyres condition, So look for scuffing (Tyre alignements out) and for any debree and Nails, As you dont want a blow out on your journey due to a nail that you missed

I took my 2000 Punto on a 350 mile trip a few weeks back, just after having new water pump and timing belt fitted lol. The biggest problem I encountered was CD's skipping 'cos they were scratched lol (oh and sat-crap, err...nav playing up lol - should only have been a 250 mile drive :p lol)

I did Liverpool - Reading just before Newyear, that was about 400miles there and back, car did it fine :) although.. when I stopped at the services my car refused to start lol.. so i left it a minute and tried again and it worked :) .. weird.

i drove my mk2 sporting from sheffield to bridgend in south wales on the way home from buying it haha nothing went wrong as far as i can remember i went in a corsa haha that made it there and back
cheers

This thread just brought back memories of the good old days in my 1998 punto, I use to do a 300 mile round trip every weekend for around two years whilst I was at uni, didn't have any problems whatsoever. Eventually traded the punto in with just under 100,000 miles on.

I've now got a Stilo JTD and sometimes do 600 mile round trips over a weekend which is much more comfortable especially with the cruise control!

I think I've done about 370miles on a full tank before, mostly motorway driving, took about 7 hours continuous driving, not being conservative with the throttle -- you can't be in a 1.2 8v else you get nothing.

on a serious note, the cars prefer a good long drive to "blow out the cobwebs"

i mormally do 500 miles in a weekend driving up to scotland, then driving back and the car has no problems
