General How long can you drive non-stop

on a serious note, the cars prefer a good long drive to "blow out the cobwebs"

i mormally do 500 miles in a weekend driving up to scotland, then driving back and the car has no problems
That they do lol. Anybody feel as though their lil' Punto gets grumpy just driving round town? lol

(Might just be me that gets grumpy rather than the car lol)

im about to make a 700 mile round trip because i just won some abarth bumpers on ebay haha
get in

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your replies, I drove 350 miles in 10 hours (4 hours rest in between) and it all went fine.
Can I ask, what the highest mileage someone has got on his or her punto?
Are there any punto's with over 110,000 miles on them in this forum?

Treated right they will go around the clock a couple of times. Treated like a lump of junk that can service itself and you'll blow something serious (like the head gasket) within a year or two.
A mate of mine had an MZ 250 motorbike. They are cheap and get horribly abused so have a poor reputation for breaking down. He used it for courier work and did at least 250,000 miles on ONE engine. That included tours to Turkey, Moscow, Southern Italy, etc, etc.

Fiats are much better made and capable of even better - when properly looked after.

110768 miles on mine...
Just had new gearbox fitted, near head gasket, new cam belt, new timing belt, new rocket cover gasket, new alarm system, new alloys, new brake pads and a new led bulb for the light behind the heating dials as it had blown!

Its doing well for its age.. i mean, the bodywork is god awful.. keyed on every panel, huge dent in front n/s wing ect .. but it does pull well and still gets to 98mph providing the hill is steep enough..!

And (back on topic!) the lil beauty drove me 352 miles on Sunday down to Minehead to see the mother! . . although since i got back it clonks when i pull away in first and shakes slightly through the steering wheel whilst idle...
Just another few problems its lining up for me im sure!
:slayer:

My last punto, before I crashed it into a tree :)thumbd:) was a 2002 with 150,000 miles on it.

All it had done were services on schedual and one back box and one full exhaust system (including cat) and the oil leak fixed twice.

Really under rated (y)

Yes it should be fine
As mikey said above, make sure you check the essentials and carry some extra water as then if you run out of screenwash - you've got water atleast to keep you going, and water for the radiator should it drink any (not that it should as that usually indicates a problem)

One thing you should do also is check the tyres condition, So look for scuffing (Tyre alignements out) and for any debree and Nails, As you dont want a blow out on your journey due to a nail that you missed

Ziggy

Yeah that kinda happened to me the other day, not nice having to carry on with a get you home wheel, oh and grinding to a halt on the A1 isn't nice either o_O

have made several trips from wales to the French Alps in my 1997 1.2; Punto has the most comfortable seat of any car I have had; no problems; 208,000 miles now and still on original clutch; apart from basic checks make sure you are well rested prior to journey; at least 20% of motorway accidents are caused by drivers falling asleep.....

the only puntos i've had to look at for friends where they're playing up are 1.6 sporings, other than normal service stuff like new belts, filters etc i've never come across a punto or other fire based car thats been a pig, and thats inluding rotbox mk1 unos and pandas.
