Full Beam turns headlights off

Hi all,

Looking at the front of the mark 2 Punto, the light clusters are as follows:

From outside in:
1.Fog Lights
2.Dipped Beam
3.Indicator
4.Full Beam/Parking Lights

Has anyone else come across an issue where, if you're driving along on dipped headlights, and then flick the left stalk forward to turn on your full beams, the headlights turn off?

Normally both sets of lights stay on, and if you pull the stalk back, the headlights come back on.

It's strange, and doesn't happen often, but I'm wondering if I'm the only one...

no you not the only one i have exact same problem as you do. soemtimes when i flick full beam on headlights turn off. normally i just flick back and then on again pushing the stalk slowly adding either an slight upward pressure or downward cant remember wich one now and then they work. i have had this problem for over a year i just got used to it as it only happens maybe once every coupel of weeks in winter and less in summer when you use ya lights less. i did ask about it on this forum and someone advised me that its the contacts in the stalk that controls the lights, they get bent apparently. but like i say i never bothered sorting mine.

this would be interesting in a twisty country lane at 60 when all off a sudden you cant see the road i had this problem on scooter when my headlamp bulb suddenly went and i went through a hedge

id think it would be contacts but isnt there a fiat recall on this as it sounds a major safety hazzard to me

nah its not really a big safety hazzard just annoying. basically you have normal head lighst work great then you flick to ful beam. the full beam lighst come on but the normal head lights sometimes go out. you can still see fine it just means its slightly darker just in front of the car. then when you flick back to normal headlights they come on again. can be annoying at times.

Re: Full Beam turns headlights off

Well i'm sure the warrenty should cover that.

Mate had a corsa a new one, and after a few weeks the lights and indicators starting dicking around.
Some times indicators would go like the clappers other times they wouldn't work atall (even got pulled by police for it),, headlights also fluctuated and dimmed randomly, vaux garage replaced everything, stalk (twice), relays, entire fuse board, battery, part of computer, all bulbs, some wiring and some other bits.

Nothing had any effect it still did it. SO in the end (after 3months of hell) they replaced his car with a shinny new one!!
