Hi,
Returned from a long trip from Ireland. Unfortunately, my Clutch packed in. Needed new Clutch, payed 260 euros...ouch. The car had been running great whilst over there. On a long trip over there, I drove the car on practically no petrol, about 30 miles in the red of petrol guage. No petrol stations open on New Year's Day.

Since returning to the UK, the car has developed a rev problem. When stationary, the engine revs are up and down. Suddenly, the revs shoot up as if I am pressing the accelerator pedal down, but I'm not. Unless I tap the accelerator pedal with a jerk, the enhine over revs like mad.The tapping of the accelarator stops the over reving briefely and I'm doing this constantly. It seems to hapen whilst waiting in traffic. I have put WD40 on accelerator cable housing, close to the Carburator Housing thinking it was a sticky cable. This has obviously not sorted problem. What next?

Any 'crap' build up on the butterfly valve? Worth cleaning it(carefully!)along with the good old faithful leave battery disconnected for 10 minutes! If you end up at the dealers for a throttle body dont forget you can get the potentiometer seperate so dont get ripped off, good luck.

Have you tried putting some redex petrol treatment in the car and running that to clean the pipes abit, not sure if that will help But it could be agood for the engine after running it in the red as this would have sent the dregs into the engine not that good for it!

happens to mine too.

I have put it down to speedo sensor on the gearbox or crankcase sensor on the rocker cover.

I am replacing both (when I can be bothered) hoping that should sort it.

Will post how I get on.

i have exactly the same problem at the mo and also had this problem with it last year. when it was doing this last year there was an airlock in the radiator so the mechanic bled the radiator and everything was fine. I feel for u know exactly what its like having to wait at some traffic lights looking like a boy racer!

Mmmm not sure if thats the problem, will be interesting to find out if it is though.By the way there is a new plug for the speed sensor that also plugs into the battery fusebox because the speed signal is getting lost, ask about this before buying a new sensor.
