Hi guys,

First post in here so bear with me. Looking for some advice.
This morning I was changing gears from 3rd to 1st to stop at a junction. Then all of a sudden my gear stick began to go loose only moving(wobbling) between first and 2nd gear but not engaging any gears. However, I could still drive the car although the revs were getting very high. It was like it was stuck in gear but I couldnt change. The stick wouldn't even move from side to side.
Breakdown man couldn't figure out what the problem was just suggesting it was something inside the gear box? Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem as the garage isn't open until tomorrow to find out! If anyone has experienced this, is it expensive to fix?

May have broken selector rods? Jack up front of the car, support it, and put it in gear from under the bonnet see if that works.

Clutch is a possibility?

The recovery guy did have a play about with it through the bonnet and whilst the car was up on a jack, which seemed to let the gear start going from side to side rather than just up and down. But as soon as the ignition was on and the clutch was down it went back to the same problem.
I have read a few things about gear linkages and wondering if anyone thinks that could be what is causing it? I'm hoping since it will be covered by warranty Just trying to prepare myself for what damage the garage will say!
