OK, lets see if i can get everything correct.

I had a water noise behind the dashboard and thought nothing of it.

Not long after the headgasket went. (This was about a week ago)

I had a new headgasket, cambelt and thermostat (cambelt and thermostat apparently became "contaminated" due to the way the gasket blew)

I never noticed the running water after the job was done, and now i can hear it again.

I am going to bleed it tomorrow by leaving the cap off where you top the water up and running the car with the heaters going etc (So i read)

I rang the garage today and he said some cars do make water noise and that it is fine.

He said there is no temp gauge on mine which there isn't and that a warning light should come on if there is any overheating.

To which i said there was no light that appeared on the dash when the head gasket went, he said to check it. From what i know it looks like a thermomator in water, which does light up when turning the key to the first position.

So as far as i know that light is working. I will repost tomorrow when i have bled it to see if it goes away, and if it does, i can gurantee it will happen again, so what could it be letting air in?

Cheers in advance, im tired and hope i got everything in here to help people.

You need to open the bleed valve (down by the bulkhead where the heater pipes go) to release trapped air. Use a screwdriver.

Leave it gurgling and you will need another head gasket. Also undo the highest little pipe that comes off the thermostat housing to shift any air from there. Top up the tank and its done.

there is also a bleed valve on the radiator; I think there is a guide on bleeding it HAS to be done properly; have had 3 blown HGs on my 200,000+miles mk1 and the overheat light has never illuminated (but will do so if the connection to the sensor is earthed); the problem with the punto is that there is no expansion tank which if there was and placed at the highest point would ensure that any air in the system would self bleed

Ok, so i left the heater off all the way to the cinema last night to see if it was related, let the car cool down while watching the film, came back and the noise was still there when parked, revving it slightly.

Anyway....

Went out to it this morning to try and bleed it by the leaving the cap off the radiator container thing and running the engine with the heater on, started up the car, checked the for the noise... GONE!

I left the car to stand for 5-10 mins with the heater on to warm it up and the noise i think started to come back, but only slightly.

So maybe the bloke at the garage is right and it is to do with the heater. Or is it still a problem and will only appear when the car is at a decent tempreture?

I got an MOT friday with KwikFit (They didn't do the HG) and i will run it by them too just to get 2 "professional" takes on it.

Any ideas from you guys with the update from myself? I am no good with cars so i have no idea if it's safe or not, or if anything is broke, but that's why i joined here =)

Cheers

Sorry to be a pain but im back again haha, i went to the post office in the car, about 1 mile there and 1 mile back, no noise on starting the car, getting back in it at post office (which was when i noticed it again after repair) and nothing when got home, had the heater on hot there and back and on speed 2/4.

What i noticed yesturday under the bonnet down by oil dipstick when you can see the black spongy thing to do with the steering i think there was water droplets, dotted around, just like after the headgasket broke, could be to do with the rain i had yesturday and today they have gone along with the noise

Cheers again.

I brought my punto in Feb 2008 and sometimes it randomly makes water sounds, it sounds like u know them water machines that are upside down in business's ... well only for a second it sounds like air bubles in wate ror something on the left hand side of the dash board, i think this is the same problem im not sure, but my car has had a service since and still does it , and it hasnt really caused aproblem but annoying sometimes, Any ideas anyone ??

there is air in the heater matrix/pipes; park the car pointing uphill and to the left; warm the engine up with heater valve on; carefully open the bleed valve behind the throttle body until air/water comes out and rev the engine until no air bubbles appear just coolant; do the same with the bleed valve on the top drivers side of the radiator; keep topped with coolant; watch for scalds

Yeahh umm I may have to learn what all of that means in englishh Lmaoo.
Im more in with styling not mechanics haha, ill have a word with my local garage :) ill print off that you said, thanks mate

I will post an update after i give it a longer run tomorrow, and ill also put on here what kwikfit say friday morning, which i guess will be air in the system and it needs bleeding.

It was bled on the HG job so why is there air back in it already? Before the HG job he put it on a pressure test. So surely he would of found if there was any other gaps or something?

I reckon if it does need bleeding and i get it done, it will happen again. I cant bleed it every week, but we shall see tomorrow...

im still dissliking my punto this week :) aha

we all go through bad patches but come out smiling in the end;)

ill also put on here what kwikfit say friday morning,

why? it needs bleed COLD, if that dont work it needs bleed at a steep angle and if that does not work there is a modification (fiat garage only) that can be done....I have mentioned this many times before so have a search back through some similar threads in this section.

People you may laugh I had a major running water problem like a small river in my dash 1.4 stilo , then finding after topping water up that the pressure water cap seal/ o ring was snapped , anybody with a old stilo , change it for the best copy or a oringal , I checked by squeezing water hoses and if you can here the tank breathing , the system won't pressurise at all , my car worked straight away , lost no water at all , just saying

Might sound fully but I had a "sloshing" noise coming from behind my dashboard, it only happened once in a while and it was most prominent when turning sharply,

Turned out the drainage pipes which drain the wiper motor cavity filled with dead leaves, a few Weeks later the wipers packed in which alerted me to the problem. a cheap and simple fix but a lesson learned :)

I doubt this is the problem in this thread but it sounded familiar and it doesn't take any time to check :)
