Hi iv wondered for a while why my punto MK2 2002 Active 1.2l 8v has no redline on the revs?

What does the punto 1.2l 8v engine redline at any ideas?

I cant remember what the rev counter goes to its either 7000 rpm or 8000 rmp cant seem to remember right now.

I dont want to strain the engine too much obviously i change gears with eninge tone bit harder to do with induction kit lol i just want to know what it will redline at?

Thanks
Brin

iirc a little red light comes on if the revs go to high around 6000 im pretty sure

I already thort of this so i tryed it and I went to like 6500 revs and no lights lol i dont think anyway lol.

What does the little red light look like and where abouts does it come on?

CHeers

like at the bottem right of the rev counter, i really cant reamber it happend when i first started driveing and i came off a roundabout onto a dual carrige way and i thought it was in second but was in first then i heard the engine over my music and noticed the light and where the rev counter was

il rag 1st gear tomoro and find out lol(y) im thinking that it will redline at about 6000 rpm anyway its only a 1.2

Will i break the engine if i redline every gear is that not what the redline is there for?

i wouldnt recommend going above 4 and a half thousand on a regular basis i tend to change on 3000, it dont help mpg either lol

it has a light if you go into the red? strange... either way i have a funny feeling the FIRE engines red line at 6000 limiter won't be much higher, which is when most engines just get going tbh :slayer:

there is not red on the rev counter tis all white or orange if you have the lights on

knowing my luck its some kind of warning light meaning somethings going wrong somewhere and iv mistaken it for that

lol i think fiat just forgot to put a bit of colour on the rev counter lol i normally change at about 4000 - 4500 rpm not over that dont wan to fook the engine

if you get some visual performance dials there is some red on there starts at 6k iirc

i like to change then but i cant afford it on petrol lol

Rev limiter is at 6500, probably easiest to see this when accelerate down slip road onto motorway, keep in second to limiter. Limiter is usually set a bit higher than engine is tuned to for max power. So if your ragging it then youd change up at about 6000-6200. FIRE engine was concidered high revving when it was new. Most modern engines will rev higher and produce more bhp per litre.
That said most 1.2 litre engines are old tech built in eastern europe, south east asia or Brazil. Designed primerily to be cheap to produce, secondly to be economical with scant regard for power so 1240 8v is still as good as the oposition dispite designed over 20 years ago.

so when it gets to 5500 power will start to drop?

so in theory best place to change would be beetween 5000 and 5500?

if you didnt mind ragging your engine

Right im gonna raggg it till the injectors pop out through the dash and the spark plugs are thrown out of the exhaust lol:D

Im gona rev it sooooooooooo hard the rev needle will be doing 360's and it will tick over at 8000 rpm:D

If you are looking for ultimate acceleration, maybe.

All the gears have different gaps between them. To get ultimate acceleration you need to be minful of what revs you get in the next gear. Ideally you want to change up when the engine reaches maximum power, but if that change drops you out the bottom of the power band, then it can be worthwhile staying in the previous gear for a bit longer.

Cheers

Mk 2
1242 16v 80bhp and 1242 8v 60bhp
Max power @ 5000
Rev Limiter = 6500

Mk 1
1242 8v 75bhp
Max power @6000
Rev limiter = 7000 (I think)
Curiously Mk1 + Mk2 I understand cam is the same or almost same. Injection system is different?

Didnt realize there was a soft limiter. but sounds like mk2 power artificially limitted to 59 or 60 bhp?

MK 1 Punto 85, I guess the 85 is a 1.6 is it?

why does a mk2 8v have 60bhp and mk1 8v have 75bhp and same litre engine.

punto 85 is 1.2 16v, limiter is at 7250 revs
