hola,trying to get my gt to mot standard and i have noticed that the window wipers dont work on stage 1,they also make a disgusting sound when they wipe!! Also the heater only works when turned to 3!! stage 1 and 2 dnt work im confused! any ideas people??

wipers don't know, fan doesn't matter for an MOT but it's the motor! Mine on 1 of my puntos keeps going then coming back! Dirty or corroded connections me thinks

ah rite,where is fan located??i thought it mite be a wiper motor but surely they would just check to see if wipers work,which they do just dnt have the stage where it wipes then does nothing for a few seconds,cheers

I meant the fan for the heater blower. But the wipers have 3 settings do they not? If other 2 settings work it could just be loose wiring somewhere? If not the wiper motor may have corroded connections or faulty, both a simple replace though. On 1.2 8v the motor for the heater fan is in the passenger side, wiper motor just under bonnet. Should be the same on yours

As for your fan heater, if it works on '3', but not others, then that means the resistor pack has packed up. Common fault, search the forum for replacement instructions.

As for the wiper, that one is a little more odd. I would suspect, being only the intermittent setting, it's probably the interval timer. No idea where it is, but it will be some kind of resistor-capacitor circuit, similar to an indicator flasher.

yea i know i thik i have seen the part you mean,perhaps i will leave it until mot is done,dnt nee to make more work for myself atm!! and yea wouldnt surprise me,think im gnoing to look at getting a new motor and blades to get rid of the noise,cheeers

np, just see what they say, u never know they might pass it, if not they'll tell you what it is and you have 7 days to do it! Cant charge for a re-test so nothing to lose

As far as I am aware, the motor, supports and connecting rods come as a single unit new from Fiat, and are about £130! Since you have a mk1, the linkages shouldn't be causing juddering performance, it will probably be the commutator brushes on the motor. Take the motor out (you will need a Torx bit to remove it from its linkage) and clean up the commutator. There's instructions in the 'guides' section of this site.

rite,seems complicated alredi lol would a replacement motor fix the wiper problem?and the heater doesnt fuss me to much,ill just wear more jumpers and hats in car lol

Actually, what sort of disgusting noise are we talking about here? If it is just the noise of the blades against the windscreen, then they have probably dried out and deteriorated, which will be fixed by new blades. I don't think it will fail an MOT with the intermittent setting broken since older cars never had this in the first place. I can almost guarantee it's the interval timer that's at fault. Follow the wires back from the wiper motor and look for an electronic box of tricks. It might be under the steering column cowling though.

think i shall leave it for now,wipers work and hetr isnt an essential,wait till i have mot and decide then!! 130 pound seems excessive though

rite i am going to do it wen i have spare time and as for the blades i am going to get some of the kewl ones the newer cars have,they look easy on the eyes lol mite as well do rear to!! also if the rear squirter doesnt squirt thats a fail isnt it??

No, won't fail because you don't need one, MOT is simply to make sure the car is safe for you and other people. Only the pickiest of garages could ever fail it

Rear wiper and washer are not part of the MOT test, don't worry about them at the moment.
