Hi all, I managed to let my battery go falt last week and since then I have had the red 'steering wheel' warning light on my dash board.
THE PAS seems to be working correctly tho.
Any ideas how to remedy it or what has caused it and approx cost?
I have an 03 mk2 punto 1.2 active 8v 5dr.

My wife's car - same model is currently poor performing re economy and speed - could this be an alignment problem, as there is a slight judder on the steering wheel
? Again any ideas plus costing?

I've just had the same issue.
Battery went flat...recharged battery...red light stayed on.
Did the "power-off, wait 30 sec test", found that the light would go off, but come back on after a couple of seconds, yet steering was fine.
Replaced battery - problem solved :)

If your's doesn't have the same symptoms and, more importantly, sort itself out with a new battery, might be worth the while to get a OBDC meter on it and check for fault codes. PAS is a pricey replacement...
Other things to check out...is the alternator charging sufficiently? If you (like me) have a lot of gizmos attached to the power, maybe insufficient voltage is getting to PAS.
Hope this helps

My HGT battery failed and that pulled up a steering fault. I suspect the low voltage at low engine revs was the issue. New battery now and no more odd warning lights.

been kwik fit to check battery (ok) and wheel alignment on my punto but because of the warning light they would not check/put right. They used a Bosch diagnostic reader which came up with the code C1006 'Steeering Monitor Sensor Fault' Does anyone know what this fault is etc?
Went to my local Fiat dealers who said they'd have to use their own diagnostic gizmo at a cost of £55 for 1/2 hours work and that there is a 2 - 3 week waiting list!!!!!!!!
48k service is due but told me to get the fault sorted 1st as it could prove expensive - guess they've already decided it will be.

Battery can read ok but replace it anyway! I had problem on mine when I bought it, had them replace the steering anyway as it was under warranty still. PAS takes alot of power! New battery will cost less than the £55 reading

My battery was 100% flat and need the jump leads connected with the rescue engine running for 10 mins before the engine would turn over.

I drove 15 minutes to Halfords. They were the closest and a longer drive was too risky.

Their Bosch electrical tester showed the battery with 30% charge. Hmmm

I started the engine twice for the guy to test the gennie and on the 2nd attempt the battery was flat. Hmmm

His tester now indicated an internal short circuit. The 30% of full charge value was correct of course, but the battery was so clapped out this was 30% of ferkall.

While I was parking up the steering light came on, I suspect because the battery was going down so fast.

New battery now and all (seems) to be cool. The posh Bosch silver type was only about £20 more so I went for it.
