So I'm on the look out for some steel wheels for winter, abit late i know but if the weather persists I'm not really wanting my alloys chipped with the salt etc etc.
Would my alloy wheel bolts be too long for steel wheels? I presume they will be but I'm just double checking.

Anyone done the same thing as me over winter?
Oh and if anyone has any steel wheels lying about let me know :D

You would need to check, but, probably is the short answer. The taper will be the same, the torque usually less for steels.

Most of Europe, its compulsory in a lot of countries. I put all season tyres on my standard alloys. May get bigger alloys in the summer.

I think it will be ok but not sure try with samebolts on steelies because when i bought muy locking bolts they were like a inch longer than the normal bolts but they still fit perfect, just use them then slowly turn your wheels to hear if they touch in the drums. If no grinding and they turn freely they should be fine mate.

Thanks for the replies. In fact, I have a steel wheel in my boot instead of the ****ty spacesaver thing so I'll try tomorrow :)

There is a guy on eBay willing to sell me all 4 with decent amount of tread for £20, I'm still thinking I could get him cheaper! ha

If you are in the scrappy some Fiats with alloys that had a steel spare came with a set of cone washers in the boot to space the alloys bolts when fitting the spare.

You might be lucky and find 4 sets. Try Centos.
