my dads got a 2000 1.2 punto, he wants a new speedo dash with the rev counter and that on but does not want to go to fiat and pay them to proxy align it, what damage is likely to happen if he does not proxy align the new dash unit to the car? thank you

Well i replaced the standard dash in mine for one with a rev counter. Not had it proxy aligned.
All that happens is the clock and the mileage flash on and off, but everything still works perfectly. The flashing can get slightly annoying but you get used to it and its well worth doing.

does it still record mileage and show correct speed?

I haven't proxy aligned mine, but the speedo, rev counter, temp and fuel gauges all work, so does the trip computer, only thing that's wrong is the mileage, which means everytime i get a service or MOT i have to put the original set of clocks back in so the mileage reads correct :) like impactuk says just a flashing display, though i drive with the steering wheel adjusted high so can't see the display over the centre of the steering wheel anyway!

I have a 2003 (03) plate punto 1.2 active sport is it a MPI or a SPI, also sorry to bother where have you got your new clocks from?

kool thank you alot, i let him know, but the thing that bugs me the most is that how can some dealers charge you more to do something than another one can, lol

Yeah, its all fine. Incorrect mileage though, but it still adds up.

I didnt even bother going to my local dealer, i know they'll just rip me off. Went to other places and they told me they needed special Fiat software to fix it.

Prices varied for me, there are guys on here who went to the dealer and got it done for £35. My local dealerships each wanted £80 and the local "mileage correction" guys were asking for £100! Apparently if you can get past the front desk and ask a fiat technician the price can come tumbling down, haven't tried yet though.

Perhaps worth asking a local Fiat specialist. The guys in Derby recently offered to GIVE an Alfa 156 front bumper to my brother. They wanted 1/2 hour (£30) to take it off for him.

its a rip off what fiat provide. i rang my local dealer yesterday to get my rev counter cluster proxy aligned and they wanted 40 quid plus vat. and then said that they cannot guarentee the proxy allignment to work as the cluster has alrady been registered to the previous car but i would still need to pay if it didnt work.

they then said i need to buy a new cluster for 200 + vat - i just hung up...

Surely that meansthe mileage is added to the new cluster, so when you put your old 1 back in for MOT or services it has remained the same :confused:

Meaning that your not showing the genuine mileage of your car

MPI.

Mileage has been added on I thought it'd be best to keep notes on both mileage clocks and the mileage added on to the new clocks has been the same as that added on to the old clocks when they're plugged back in. May I ask what else happens in the proxy alignment? Is it something i should be putting on my list of priorities to get done? Ta :)
