This morning driving to college i heard a gush of water/fluid behind the glove box.

got into my car after finishing college, started her up and heard a ticking from engine bay and after giving the car a small amount of revs, i hear fluid behind the glove box everytime.

what could of caused this and what should be my next plan of action?

1.2 8v punto

p.s there is no white substance in with the oil filler cap but i assume it is early days for that if it is hg?

cheers ff

all this is, is an air lock in your radiator...

i had this problem and to fix it i put radiator flush, radweld, and new anti freeze and water, then bled the system and now its fine..

you could try driving your car a couple of miles with the radiator cap off and see if the noise goes away

I had the same problem, tried bleeding it - didn't need it, the water was about on minimum so I toped it up and its been fine since.

Apologies to go against the grain, but I've had my car 3 months and had this noise since I got it... Right now its losing water, running crap and has snot on the oil filler cap, and lots of white smoke from the exhaust. If I were you, go to a garage and ask them to check it out.

well i haven't had the rad cap off since I've had the car I don't think! (year now - never needed to top it up.)

there was smoke coming out exhaust however I have a 3" tip (performance exhaust) so it does smoke and it was snowing yesterday so you can imagine the weather outside is pretty cold lol.

Ok garage it is tomorrow night - thanks for replies but any more help or suggestions welcomed!

It WILL BE the head gasket if you don't get some proper coolant in there PDQ AND bleed it properly. As Cinq often says - basic maintenance checks.

Well I got it checked out while I got my clutch replaced and the fella said that the fluid behind glove box was something to do with the gearbox? I'm not sure weather to believe it or not lol? But anywho it's fixed now apparently cos clutch is now replaced (was thrush bearing etc) but I haven't seen the car yet due to all bad weather! Any thoughts on all this? Come across this at all White? Thanks all

Lol @ Thrush bearing!!

Do you mean the water-y noise from what sounds like the passengers footwell? It'll be the heaters. My mechanic told me its very common but said its nothing to worry about really. Just make sure its properly topped up and bled.

Well it's definatley from the passenger side and I just heard/read before that if you can hear fluid behind Glove box or in passenger footwell isn't the greatest thing ever and just wanted to check it out before any further damage was caused.

I've left it to a garage for what I beleive bleeding of the system but the guy there said he would have a look at it first.

You took it to a garage to bleed it? You realise all it is is to screws you undo untill water comes out then screw them back in?
Also if you never checked your coolant chances are you ran it low and got air in your system
Most common cause of HG failure is probably people not checking the coolant. You get heat spots on the headgasket causing it to go crack!

Coolant also goes off as it ages so you might have some frost damage. Drain it out refill with premixed coolant and bleed out ALL the air that otherwise will ruin your head gasket.

Regular coolant changes and level checks are as important as oil changes.

right update I drained coolant and was refilled with pre mixed coolant from a bottle, however I still have the water flushing noise behind the glove box.

Of course you do - ignored advice to bleed the thing. Air in the system makes it gurgle and leads to blown head gaskets.

FF has a great search facility

my mechanic told me it didnt need bleeding and i should stop listening to the internet lol but i am going to attempt to bleed the system.

is there a guide for mk2 white? i can't find my haynes manual lol. cheers

Hahaha!! Doesn't need bleeding? What planet is he on! and stop listening to the internet? Sorry but its 100 on here against one of him! He's a Twonk! To put it in rallycinq terms! (Sorry for stealing your word!) :p

Quite alot of people on here probably have just as much if not more experience with cars (puntos specifically) than him

Lol sorry didn't mean to offend - It's just his opinion and I thought I'd go along with it for a while but for the sake of two plastic screws, I'd rather be safe than sorry, than pay out another what, £1000 on the punto.

My so far progress was this; Located the bleed screws at college waiting for someone lol - undone the coolant cap, undid both bleed screws until some cooland leaked out - and that's pretty much it and I think the noise is still there, I assume I will need to drain the system and possibly fluish the rad while i'm at it? but is there a guide on the forum I could follow for an MK2? I can only see mk1.

Cheers.

lol No offence, he just an idiot, yeah, try draining the coolant and keep the bleed screw open while slowly filling it up, may want someone to help you. As the coolant comes out of the 1st hole (i let it come out for a second or 2) then tighten it up really well. The same with back one.!
