Good afternoon all, After looking over many websites and posts i have come up with a plan for my HGT, my 1st question is how does this sound to most people and do the cost seem reasonable:

GSR induction Kit £280
SuperSprint exhaust (full system) £600
Uprated brake disks and pads £350
Lights (upgraded bulbs) £50
Set of alloys 16" £600

I am not looking for massive power gains, but I hope the above will give a few extra BHP and give a nice sound not a boy racer boom. My second question is, can all of the above be done at the same time in garage as I don't feel comfortable in doing them myself. I know some local garages that could do the work, but this would mean buying all the parts my self, and I would rather the garage do this, so not make any mistakes. so if any body has any experience with the above and where they got the parts form it would be a great help.
Thanks in advance
Regards

Thanks for the reply, I from great ayton, north Yorkshire. But i would not have any problems travelling to a garage that could carry out all the work at the same time. The prices i have given i have tried to use the top end of the prices i have seen so far.

Regards

SuperSprint would be a lot more than that if you included a manifold. Those mods will give that bit more power and sportier sound (I'll try and get a vid sorted with the noise they make)

I'd add lowering to that list as well.

Hiya guys,

(GRS induction kit)
(Supersprint exhaust front/centre/back)

does any body the approx cost of all the above and to fitting in a local garage?

For the exhaust i am looking at the supersprint front/centre pipe and the rear exhaust, what kind of power gains would I be looking at from these, because I do not fancy getting the manifold at the moment. I have check a few sites but unable to get any prices for the parts.

While the car is in I am also looking to get the variator changed as on start ups my car is starting to make the disel noise, what is the normal cost for this including labour.

Thanks

Ah, hence the variator. I think Alfa independents do them for around £100. Probably worthwhile getting the belts done at the same time if they're near to end of life. (if not, you might think that leaving it for a while is a good idea.) Also check that the cam locking tool is the same.

Maybe the 2litre Alfa twin spark will fit: that'd be a cheap tuning mod!

The Punto HGT is great (contrary to what many would have us believe).

But it cannot handle an old cam belt - Maximum 4 years or 40,000 miles whichever comes first. Leave it longer and you are in for a huge bill. Also dont skimp on oil and coolant changes.

The variators on older HGTs wear out and rattle like a diesel. Today's Fiat parts are sorted so the GSR is no longer available. I paid about £100 for the variator from Shop4Parts with another £100 approx for the cam belt kit plus fitting. When its done the engine is like a sewing machine.

So before you do anything, unless the cam belt is a known entity get it changed. A clue is if the accessory belt is cracking across the drive side ribs. They tend to be changed at the same time so if you can see cracks assume the cam belt is also cracking.

If you have any doubts - stop driving and get it changed ASAP.
I had mine 2 days - couldn't resist and this is what happened...

If the variator is noisy I would suggest fitting a new one along with a new cam belt. The labour is the same so the cam belt gets fitted "free".

The back end exhaust is probably a waste of money without a new manifold. My HGT (2001) has two small catalysts right up close to the engine and another under the floor where cats normally go. My HGT redlines at 7000 and spins happily to 5,500 but then feels like the cats are strangling it.

I would like to fit a new sports manifold but costs are against me for now.

Wheel? TBH I like the std wheels. You could get them refinished. A stove enamellers will be MUCH cheaper than a wheel specialist.
