My punto hgt is due its mot in 2 weeks and I was wondering a few things...
1) Would my car pass with its current headlights (hope the pics come out ok)? And if not do I have to replace the whole unit or can I just replace the lenses?

2) Would it fail for having a rear windscreen wiper that doesn't work?

3) Would it fail for the flashing airbag lights?

Thank you in advance for any help xxx

the lights i think just need to be seated correctly and have the correct aim

rear wiper they dont test cause you dont really need one..

Airbag lights erm not sure dont think its in a MOT inspection ive got the light on in my car and it pasted last week. so i think you should be ok

you been using a hand car wash place? they spray traffic film remover that kills plastic headlamps.

I do use a hand car wash but they've been like that since the car was bought for me, looks like a thin coat'/dusting of primer or something, don't think the pics came out too well! Will d3 remove that as well do you think?

Are they steaming up?? if they are steaming up when you took these pics on the day you get it tested chances are it will impair the light trying to project properly from your beams inside the casing leading to a not so accurate reading. Your don't have to buy new ones you could just un-seal them and clean then re-seal them properly so moisture has less chance of entering the unit, (there are quite a few posts on FF on this issue), if you know what you're doing? otherwise I guess you get some more BUT they wo'nt be cheap! As there different to the regular Mk2 lights.

I would have thought so IMO as it's part of your personal road safety ? It was'nt an issue a few years back, it may just go on an advisory, but I guess it depends on which tester you go to as some are leinient than others. It's a lottery! :p

3) Would it fail for the flashing airbag lights?
It's a good possibility as it's a safety feature, but some garages may turn a blind eye... It could potentially put you at risk too in theory.

What if I drove a van, don't need a rear wiper then. I took mine off my last punto and passed the MOT so its not tested.

Sorry smokeyjoe, not quite sure if it's question you asking me or your giving me a fact . IMO as I said before it's down to the person who tests your car. One time I took my car to a MOT tester and he failed me on 3 things 2 of which I was very suspicious of as nothing was wrong with them, then when I took it to another guy only one thing needed doing which he fixed before he got the pass certification. Some wil take you for a burton if they can putting on new parts that sometimes are not always necessary, whereas some will allow for the odd oversight as it's somthin they know you can repair quite easily. If your Punto did not have a wiper at the back during your test then effectively yes there's nothing to test as there are a sliver of cars and vans that do'nt have rear-wipers.

Ok, got a better pic of the lights (midnight is not the time for photos). Does anyone know whats up with them, can they be fixed and what bearing they'd have on the MOT as is? Thanx

Well, it failed its MOT! But not on any of the points I mentioned! Now for a new question...
I need a new off side front coil spring. Its a 1.8 hgt. Will any punto spring fit or are they specific? If so, where can I pick one up (leicester) and how many millions of pounds will it cost?
Thanx again!

Probably a stupid question but why can't I replace just the one thats broken?
And what are the correct ones?

Just replacing one would put the front out of balance and affect suspension and in turn steering handling(the old spring will be more "springy" than the new one so replacing both keeps everything in balance.)

If you have someone that can fit them for you then thats the way to go(straight forward job and a few hours to do) all eurocarparts will need is your cars registration number to check which springs you need(as mentioned eurocarparts will most likely be cheapest as i just done the springs on my wifes punto and eurocarparts were the best price).
Garage should nt charge a fortune for a supply and fit if need be and as its a simple job id do a phone round for quotes(sorry ive no idea how much they charge)

cheers
