hi the glow plug light flashes for around 1 minute after startup then goes out there are no fault codes written, has anyone had this problem ? cheers

Is it a regular flashing or intermittent? If intermittent is could be a relay maybe? In fact, I am nor sure if there is even a relay for the heater plugs or if they are just controlled electronically.
Sorry I don't seem to be much use! At least I tried!

I know of a JTD that does this too and would like to know why. It flashes for about a minute after start up then goes off. Car runs fine though, apart from the fact that the thermostat is stuck open!

i have found a referance to the problem on the fiat cd on the "engine difficult to start section" it outlines the fault and advises to follow diagnostic procedure K045 but i cannot find anything on that, i am guessing it is something on the glow plug system.

I cant comment on this engine, but diesel glow plugs generally stay on for a while after the engine had started. Older diesels had a timer built into the glow plug relay (they all have a relay). There was also a temperature sensor that would run the glow plugs for longer in really cold conditions. This was outside the ECU control.

Flashing from the instruments panel; is probably the ECU saying there is something wrong with a glow plug. One or two might not be heating up.
