My Punto (S60 1998) is renowned for not starting first time, though this has always been due to the lack of charge in the battery. For some reason the power is sucked out of the battery by... well... nothing really...
Anyway, this time I know it's not the battery. I have recently replaced the camshaft oil seal on the punto. I replaced the timing belt, put the rest back together and all was well...
As soon as I go to start it... it does it's usual struggle, but instead of having it leap into life, it just kept whirring (and wearing the battery down in doing so)
I spent the next few hours trying to start it (priming, jump-starting from another car etc.) to no avail. I've checked the timing and it's still correct.
I've been told that I may have distorted/bent the valves whilst turning the camshaft into it's "starting" position.
I'm yet to try a compression test on the head, though I'm sure that it's a fuel problem. The car has been standing for a few months now, as I hadn't the time to change to seal over...
Can anyone point out possible problems/solutions?
Thanks MCorVette
