Hi
I have searched this forum and internet & am still really confused. So sorry for going over the same old ground.

I have a Fiat Punto 1.2 SX 60 1998 S reg (Mark1), I had 2 blue and 1 red key. now lost red and 1 blue leaving me with just 1 blue.

Please can you confirm my thoughts here:

I can get a blue one cloned, a local firm told me £40:eek: supplied and programmed.
Q1. Will Fiat dealers do this? I will ring them but just wondered whilst I'm here.

I think I read that someone (don't know who) could chip the ecu to remove immobiliser.
Q2. Is this true and if so, would I ever need the red key for anything other than programming blue keys?
Q3. Who can do such de-immobilising?

I've read that there is a CODE CARD that Fiat sell for about £15.
Q4.Does this apply to Punto 1998?
Q5.Does the CODE CARD enable a new RED key to be programmed whilst still letting the original blue keys work?

Q5. What is the cheapest option for me to get a spare key that works in my car?

Life was so much easier with my Marina:) It wasn't very reliable but at least I could keep it going with a bit of coaxing!

Thanks

IMO I'd probably go for this option, Fiat could replace the key for you but it would sting you in the pocket more than the £40 you've been quoted. The question is how much you wish to spend on this. As for the ECU/programing removal thing, sounds a bit dodgy to me:confused: Others may think a bit differently tho.

just get the blue key cloned , cost me about £25 at a local key / security shop. ... and do it soon before you lose it !

code cards were not supplied by Fiat for a Mk.1 in the UK

As said, just get the key cloned locally, (Fiat wont do that its not factory procedure).
Code cards are only useful to do emergency starting, which is a pain in the neck - or leg. They also contain the number to cut the key blade to, not to program the key.

It looks like you'll soon lose the new key so get 2 clone keys made and hide one somewhere safe or give it to Mum/Dad/Wife/Hubby for safe keeping.
