Passenger Side Wiper

Hi,

Yesterday my passenger side wiper stopped working, upon lifting the bonet it become noticeable straight away what the problem was. It seems that the link in the arm has come apart, I attached images of the problem, could someone please tell me what the best way to fix this is? hopefully it wont be too expensive.

Thanks in advance.

Peter.

You might be lucky and be able to 'pop' it back on. Looking at the rust around there would suggest a shortage of lube.

This problem is usually an effect of the spindle seizing up. Clean and lubricate the spindle.

Cheers

I've seen all sorts of temporary bodges for this from cable ties to insulation tape... a new linkage is the proper solution obviously, one from a scrappies could fall to bits anytime really.

Re: Passenger Side Wiper

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response, I had a go at pushing it back on but assumed that something was missing or broken. From what your saying should it just be a matter of applying a bit of force to push it back on? Then a bit of grease or WD40.

Thanks.

Peter

Yup, bit of force, but do sort the spindle first, or it will happen again.

Each time it happens the ball joint gets slacker.

Just take it out, strip it, abrade any rust on the spindle and in its holder, dod of grease and back together.

Cheers

Re: Passenger Side Wiper

I am going to try and fix this at the weekend, if I have no luck I am probably going to buy the new the replacement push rod set from wipex. Does anyone know how easy this is to fit? Is it easy to remove the existing ball joints?

Thanks again.

Your help is very much appreciated.

I find long nose pliers good for getting balljoints off, put the points inbeteween the arms and a slight 'levering' will allow them to pop off. Service the spindles while in there.

Pop them off every winter, clean up the gunk and re-grease and they should last for ever. Ditto the ball joints on the gearbox shift cables.
