Just got a letter telling me about a safety recall on my car (Punto 55s 97 P reg). Apparently for "corrosion of break pipes". Is this a recent recall? or is it just summin the garage picked up on and informed fiat of ?
It says all work is to be carried out free of charge etc etc.
Wonder why it took them so long to sort a recall, unless the old owner missed it

I had it done on my old Punto about 5 years ago - it doesn't take long (y)

just got my letter today and booked it in, say it will take a full morning cause tank will be comin out etc

dave; if they're contacting him then i doubt its been done, they keep a record of repairs done under recall, i know they knew my fuel tank wasnt replaced under recall just from the chassis number heh :p

edit: oops just realised you posted 4 days ago

my black one got the recall but had been done by an independent already,

edit also fiat garages computers are not linked so repair history is not shared,

Does this recall have to be done by a Fiat Garage or can I get my local mechanic to do it and bill FIAT?

all recals must be done by a fiat dealer garage......as fiat will not pay for the upgrade......so it will transpire that you will have to foot the bill......just take it to your fiat garage..it will cost you nothing and the work is in relation to the brake pipes...some older models had a "curly back pipe" 9ON THE REAR AXEL JUST ABOVE IT)and the aformentioned pipes were rubbing together..or it is just a matter of the main front to rear pipe suffering corosion due to a faulty protection spray applied when made...WARNING....... a mate of mine had his replaced and he noticed a massive drop off in braking power...he had to take the punto back in due to air in the system......so check your brakes....as you never know with a fiat dealer..

After reading these posts and been new to Fiats how do I check if my Mk1 Punto has had or needs a recall ?
