is there a way of checking the water pump operation?, ave changed the thermostat as my car was blowing cold air and now it heats up no problem.

reason for changing thermostat was a slight milky residue in my oil cap, apart from it not working either lol and understand that it is the most common failing of a head gasket.

car did give off a skrech when i had replaced the thermostat, i assume this was the water pump getting rid of the air in the system?

car heats up fine and sits and 1/4 most of the time and doesnt go above half.

what causes a thermostat to fail ?.

i am doing alot of work to this car, and im about to change the coils and ht leads as i have that annoying power loss to.

did you bleed system like it says in the guides? gauge should sit at half way all the time

Mine is in the middle of the gauge sometimes and only 1/4 at others. So the thermostat is on the way out. About £35 from Shop4Parts (plus postage) or best part of £50 from a Fiat dealer.

After flushing the rad, fitting new water pump & thermostat and having the head skimmed, mine now sits at 1/4 and doesnt seem to go above half.

Would have thought if the thermostat was on its way out it wouldnt open causing the car to run hot not the other way round???

when they are on the way out they normally open only a tiny bit and tempature sits at a quater instead of half

But mine is new and sit at 1/4? Surley if they dont open then the flow to the rad is reduced and the engine would run hotter?

if yours is new then you have another problem. the normal temperature is half way

loads of responses, i replaced my thermostat and it sits and 1/4 all the time, seems to be fine now, changed air filter to dnd cleaned throttle body, it was manky, found a few splits in the air hose so i patched it up.

got some milky residue in my oil cap, dummo whats causing it, its not the head gasket as the car runs fine and doesnt over heat

The gauge is only a gauge, not an instrument.

It could be the sender is out of spec.

Pop a meter on it to check.
