Hi guys, I recently fitted a Tevion Radio from Aldi it was a great deal and all I wanted was a radio that I could link my ipod to via Bluetooth.

Model of car is an 05 Punto MK2B

Anyway the other day I noticed the clock had reset and the car took a bit to start but it was ok. Well now the car has sat for 2 days and went to go out an hour ago and it wont start. Its obviously a flat battery but I want to know why is it doing this and is there a way to stop it. I linked the Red with the yellow cable as I read on here (attached a photo below) and I always remove the front plate of the radio and all that is left is a little red anti-theft light that blinks away. The radio says it pulls 12V so i know its not pulling more than it should.

Any ideas would be great because looking at it now I will have to put back the old radio and sadly stick to CDs.

Cheers in advance :)

Cant do a direct link to photo so just add the http img11.imageshack.us/img11/941/securedownloadwk.jpg

Disconnect the battery earth. Put an ammeter between the earth post and the earth lead.

See what sort of draw you have.

Disconnect radio and see what changes.

Connecting the two power wires together could be leaving the internal amp on.

Hi thanks for the quick reply. I havnt got one of those ammeters I'm not very knowledgeable about cars at all just computers :) I know it's got to be the radio as I've had the car for a while never had a problem before I pit the radio in and becuase I havent used it for 48 hours that's why it's flat.

Is it do you know anything to do with the ignition wires as I haven't done anything to them and the radio instructions does mention the ignition wire but only one?

Thanks
Mark

You should have two power leads, the red one, thats controlled by the ignition and the yellow one that is permanently live.

If you have joined both on the HU to the permamnent live, then the amp will be on all the time.

The yellow wire is supposed to be just to keep the settings, nothing more.

I had a Tevion radio/CD head unit in my Seicento and it worked fine. The red LED flashes when the radio front is taken off and the ignition is off. That should pull next to nothing from the battery. The fitting instructions should show what has to be wired to what.

Hi guys thanks for the replies, I joined the yellow and red together as I read on this forum that's the only way the thing would power on. I've had a look at the instructions again and wondering if to join the red and yellow to the ignition. I'm not bothered about the presets as I rarely use the radio I just listen to music via my iPod.

Any idea if this will work?

I had the same problem, basicly you need a wire to link up which is the ingnition other wise as the guy above said it will be on all the time and this will drain your battery = bad times

thanks matt

Mos21 is correct. If you wire the red and yellow together if will drain the battery. You can be sure this is happening if, when you turn off the ignition and remove the key the radio stays on.

If it has a detachable facia you can remove it, this will cut power drain and save the battery.

Other option which I took was to wire an ignition lead (one that on runs power only when ignition is switched on).:D

Oh... and in my car at least both the red and yellow are continuous 12V. Rallycing saying the red one is controlled by the ignition is not the case, at least for my car.

Hi all, Thanks for the replies. Not been great with cars and even less with electrics I need your help I've attached a digram below of exactly how the cables in the car are and the iso cable on the back of the stereo. The empty pins don't exist i.e. there aren't any pins there just an empty slot, you will see what i mean if you check the picture.

Could you tell me where and how to link the right cable to the right slot i'd be really grateful.

Mark

Cheers for the reply and the link inki! as you can see from my picture above the yellow iso does match the red/white of the car and the black iso also matches the black on the car i tried it this way when i first got it but the radio wouldnt come on it only worked when I linked the Red iso cable to the yellow ISO cable.

What I believe I need to do is link the red with the ignition the problem is there is no pins on the ISO where the ignition is on the car and I saw your message to use a paper clip but i cant seem to get the pins loose at all.

https://www.fiatforum.com/i-c-e/204262-mk2b-punto-head-unit-wiring.html, see my post this should help you, cut the red wire on the ISO & connect your wire from the ignition using blue bullet connectors or use a blue scotchlock connector which will cut into the red wire itself, remember when all ok to put some insulation tape around to protect connections. This should now mean that the HU will only work when the ignition is turned on (symbols on dasboard are lit) hopefully no more flat battery.(y)
