Hi everyone my car suddenley wont start ? the last few times of driving it , it seemed a bit juddery , i went to start it the other day and it did,nt seem to be firing but after a while it started , i thought it must have been low on fuel , so put some in and now it just wont go ? i thought it must be the fuel pump so took it out but did,nt know how to test it so put it back in , then i found the fuel cut off switch had a couple off pushes still nothing ? the only thing i hav,nt checked is the fuel pump relay cos i dont know which one it is , can someone please help me , this is the first diesel car that i have owned so im a bit lost

thanks bob

can i just add that i noticed when turning over the engine the dash lights were going on and off

Water in fuel drain filter, filter heater, glow plugs fuse, first checks that come to mind clean injectors, air in fuel, not too many things on a diesel that are easy to check at home.

can you take the filter out of its container ? or do you change the whole thing
im also thinking of by passing the fuel cut off switch

Ok i by passed the fuel cut off switch and the engine fired but did,nt start im thinking there may be air in the system ? are these self bleeding , or is there a primer bulb somewhere ?

The 1.9D does NOT have a fuel pump, the injection pump pulls fuel straight from the tank..

even with a dead ECU the car will start and idle but nothing else..

blinking dash lights would indicate weak battery or a bad connection somewhere, i suspect the main ground on the gearbox (thick strap on the front by the wheel)

i have the same car (y)
