I'm going to the motor auctions today to see if I can get hold of one for the wife. Quite a selection available...

FIAT PUNTO 55 S N 52316 GREY
FIAT PUNTO 55 S P 29501 BLACK
FIAT PUNTO 55 S M 69438 RED
FIAT PUNTO 55 SX P 110023 RED
FIAT PUNTO 75 SX N 60905 RED
FIAT PUNTO S M 76000 BLUE

My concern is that with cars over 5yrs old they are all bought 'as seen'. I know a fair bit about cars but as I can't drive it (or even look under the bonnet) before I buy, I'm a tad worried about gearbox/clutch problems etc.

Does anyone have any pointers on anything in particular to look out for on these cars?

Also, am I right in thinking all the 55's on the list will be 1.1 8v and the 75 will be a 1.2 8v??

Any comments much appreciated.

I'm almost certain that the 55 is an 1108 8v,(same engine as my Cinq) 60 is a 1242 8v single point injection, and 75 is a 1242 8v multi point injection. The 80 is a 1242 16v.

Can someone please educate me as to the difference between single point and multi point injection (apart from the obvious!).

Cheers

On Fiat single point injection systems you have what looks like a carburettor with a single fuel injector inside serving all four cylinders.
Multi - point systems have a separate fuel injector for each cylinder, mounted on the inlet manifold near the cylinder head.

Hope this helps to clear it up a little for you.

Pete.

I'd go for the black 55 or the red 75, but that's just me. Max bid £500.
Less than that, it would seem a bargain but more, and you could do as well on fleabay or autotrader. Don't forget to factor in the hidden auction costs.
