Hi All, My Mates Fiat Punto MK2b Has just come up with loads of ECU error codes and disabled his Airbag. TYhe engine when idoling the revs jump from 1000 to about 700 and back up about once a second, sometimes it cuts itself off. He took it to a garage and they told him that the ECU was finished and giving off ALOT of error codes.

My Main Question is, can i get an ECU from the Scrap yard and fit it into the Car and it work?, Do you need special Equiptement to fit the ECU (AKA Fiat ECU Reset). On His Car the ECU, Airbag, Blown Bulb Light warning and and Power Steering light, Are all lit up on the dash.

If i try this ECU to see if it fixed the problem, could it disable or lock up any of the cars Security Devices (Doesnt have an Alarm)

Also Can a Fiat Punto MK2 Active Sport ECU be fitted onto a Flain Fiat Punto MK2b?

Kindest Regards
Jamie Cruickshank

Ok thats a pitty, I am able to get the parts ok from the Scrap Yard. Will the Fiat Punto MK2 Active Sport's ECU, Key Unit and Dash Controller work okay in the MK2b Active?
Regards
Jamie

aye, as has been said - check the earths, don't write the ECU off yet. I don't know punto models well enough, but isnt the active 8v and the active sport 16v? if so, no it won't work.

I also think it'd be cheaper / less work to get the ECU repaired by a specialist than it would be trying to use scrap yard parts.

Which ECU is faulty?

Engine management, Body computer, airbag, power steering- all have their own ECU. Are you going to replace them all for what could be something as simple as a bad earth?

What were the errors?
