Technical Speedometer drops to 0 and steering becomes light HELP!!

I am currently having an intermittant problem with my 2001 Punto, haven't had any problems before only had it for 18 months and it's in good nick. A couple of times recently I have been driving and suddenly the speedometer dropped to 0 for a few seconds then it was ok again. But today, the speedometer dropped to 0 and the steering was really really light for a good few minutes. Then it was ok and back to normal again, the steering the speedometer were both fine. Really stuck as I don't want this to be the beginning of a massive problem, don't fancy getting done by speed cameras and/or ending up into a ditch! Please help!!

Think a fix available, small loom that fits on speedo sender and fuse box area , around £30 for loom i think plus fitting.Not sure if applies to your vehicle but could investigate with a dealer

Not sure if the loom will fix this as it cured an issue on the mk2b ('53 plate) onwards cars without ABS.

Might just be a faulty speedo sender unit on the gearbox.
