i woke up this morning to find that some scum has deicded to brake into my car to nick my ipod! they have forced a screw driver down the side of the lock and made a large hole in the bodywork of the car. the problem is that the door wont lock and i have to climb through the passenger side to unlock/lock the door.

will it be possible for me to fix this or will the lock be goosed? if so is it easy to get to the mechanism?

the lock looks perfectly fine from the outside, al that is damaged is where the body work joins the lock.

any help would be appreciated.

Obviously bloody amateurs, I've had the lock forced twice on my car and there was not a mark on the bodywork. Replacing the lock barrel is pretty straight-forward, but you will probably have to see a bodywork specialist to fix the damage to the door, that or just get another door of the same colour.

I've taken to leaving nothing valuable in my car - I just accept that the Punto locks are crap and learned to live with it. On the plus side, if I ever locked myself out of the car, I could break in and repair the lock myself for about £14 - cheaper than calling out a locksmith.

I had this happen to me a few years ago.
Some little sh*t shoved a screwdriver through the door skin on the left hand side of the lock barrel & unlocked the car by bending the locking rods. Although I could still lock / unlock car, you might find that they have bent the push rods too much.
It's a bit of a pain, but if you remove the door card to access to the internals you might be able to straighten the push rods - thus allowing the car to lock / unlock .
Hope this helps???
