Hi I am new to this forum. I have this week started driving my first car - a 1996 fiat punto 55s. It's great mostly, but the radio/cassette player wont turn on. Also the clock/interior lights dont work. However my main concern is getting the radio/cassette working lol.

I took the fuse out the back of the radio to look at it and it isn't broken. I don't really know much about cars and a broken fuse was the only idea I had. Anyone got any ideas? Would be much appreciated!

It was my brother's car before I had it. I've just asked him about it and he said that the clock and radio stopped working at the same time.

I looked in the main fusebox to the right of the steering wheel behind a panel (but didnt see anything that looked clock or radio related in the wee diagram on the inside of the panel). Still I took out each fuse to check if any were blown. The fag lighter fuse was blown, so I tried putting a new one in - but there was a blue spark and the fuse blew. Is this related to the radio/clock problem, or are there maybe broken fuses somewhere else other than in the main fuse box?

Radio/interior lights on same fuse 10amp, I think it,s on the bottom row, 3rd from the left on MK1.

Hey thanks for replying, but I've just checked and third from the left on the bottom row is the fog lights...

I'll go look for a loose wire soon. As for the head unit thing, I don't actually know what a head unit is? lol. Sorry I am a novice.

Ah i see haha. Nope it's the same one that's been there since he got it and one day it just stopped working!

Okay I've left it too late and I can't find a torch. I'll go take a look for any problems tomorrow morning. Thanks for the advice - it's much appreciated.

do the 55s have the ancillary fuse box behind a panel in the glove box? when my fag lighter blew up when ipod charger imploded it took out the clock, interior lights and tape player out im sure it was a fuse in that ancillary box not the main one to the right hand side of the steering wheel...

well all Rallycing info is spot on.. but i'm interested in the actual stereo fuse... have you thought about checking that also.. i know your clock also does not work which also leads me to think some thing simple as the Sa27 10-amp fuse has blown... it is very easy to fix.. honest
if you are having problems... why not take all the fuses out one by one and make double sure they are ALL ok... LOL ... good luck :slayer:

I'd read about that fuse box on some website, but when I opened up the panel there wasn't anything there...it's weird cos i'm sure the fuse isn't in the main one (to the right of the steering wheel), but i dont know where else it could be...

I took the actual stereo fuse out and it looked fine. The sa27? Would that be in the main fusebox? I took out all fifteen fuses and only the fag lighter was blown although i guess i can double check - fun lol.

this happened to me last night and the way i fixed was looked at the fuses at the right of the steering wheel and it was a 15 amp fuse in the top row i think 3rd from left but check the whole top row if not, i changed a lightbulb and ended up blowing the fuse lol which in turn took out my clock and interior lights and my stereo!

Try this as it worked for me

Hey thanks for replying. Is that the fuse marked as 'servizi/services' on the diagram by any chance?

Okay i just took out this servizi/services fuse, and it didn't look broken. Anyway I thought i'd try putting a new one in its place anyway. So I put the new one in, then turned on the car. The radio still didn't turn on, but when I turned the engine off and just had the electrics on I heard a ticking noise that sounded like it might have been the clock. Although I sat and watched the clock for a while and the hands didnt seem to be moving...any ideas people?

No.

That fusebox is for all the extras like central locking and electric windows, the 55s has no extra's at all so has no ancillary fuse box.

As for Andrew's problem, I do know that the cigarette lighter and radio work off the same fuse so you are on the right track, as Rallycinq said, its bound to be a short somewhere. However it may not be a loose wire, it may be a frayed wire, where the plastic has been shredded from the wire somewhere, might take a while to find but it will be there somewhere.

it is the 3rd from the left on the top row im not sure what it is marked but check it to see if it hasnt blown
