Hi, as in my previous posts.. many of you might know that Ive been working on a car that has a non functional ASR Button, City Button, Intermittant Speedo, and the occasional flash up on the dashboard saying Hill Hold Failure, ESP Failure, EBD Failure, ABS Failure.

Wiring was a mess, having been tampered with previously... cut and joined wires.. mismatched wiring colours, twisted wires.. wrong size battery.

So I have now ordered a replacement wiring loom for the front and centre.

This arrived yesterday and I have begun stripping out the interior and dashboard. Hopefully tomorrow I will find out if the dealer has got the correct loom for me.

Once the wiring is good, I will then be able to find out the state of the ABS unit, and Body Computer.

Was told I may need a new fusebox under the bonnet.. but upon closer inspection I cant actually see anything inside that can go wrong.. just looks to be a series of metal plates sandwiched between plastic sheets.. interconnecting fuses to terminals on the multiplugs.. no visible PCB or anything. Fuses all look good.
Stay tuned.

hi, almost all out now.. but as I put it all back together I will do. I imagine it would be usefull for anybody else attempting to pull out the dash as well.

frustrating at the moment.. pulled everything out, disconnected everything, undone all the bolts and screws holding the dash in... theres now only 1 left and as usual its the only screw that wont come out.. and its all thats holding the dash in:(

will do if I can, havent checked yet if one will even fit in there lol.. its under the windscreen.

hi, going to have to drill it out if I can.. cant use a chisel on it because its one of the screws along the top of the dash under the windscreen, and they are recessed into the dash with a plastic cover over them usually.

3 Screws, Left, Centre, Right

Other 2 came out easy lol just that one:(

Hi, just a quick update.. dash and most of the interior is now out.. largest of the looms, the front one is in place just needs connecting up.

Dash loom though.. Dealer ordered the wrong one

and it came from italy.. returned this.. but seeming as they go on holiday in italy throughout august it could be september now before this gets finished

All I hope is that the front loom is correct.. the label was missing off the old one so I couldnt compare part numbers.. has all the same plugs and stuff though.. checked this. all I can hope is that each of those plugs has the same wires lol.. would be pretty gutted to get it all back in.. and find half of it dont work.

***UPDATE***

Hi, right, finally getting somewhere now:)

New dash loom arrived today and has been installed in the dash.

carpet is back in, and all the front loom is in place.

new section of loom running from the fusebox to the radiator cooling fan under the bonnet is in place.. everything under the bonnet is also properly in place now, and connected up minus indicators and the front fogs.

replacement battery box/container is in place..but found out dealer had provided the wrong battery.. so a replacement is arriving tomorrow:)

but had to order further sections of loom:(

upon installing the front loom I wondered why there was no heater loom.. but instead a multiplug, and realised that the multiplug had been cut out.. and in its place a load of block connectors.. which initially I thought was just a repair job.. but now I realise it was actually done to bypass the multiplugs.

so then I ordered what I thought was the loom for it.. but today it arrived and was just a bunch of bulb holders with a multiplug for the lighting behind the heater controls..which I thought was strange.. because on the existing one the bulb holders were part of the same loom as the heater box..and upon closer inspection.. I found that yet again multiplugs had been cut off the loom.. and the multiplug on the bulb holders loom had been cut off.. and the wires directly soldered onto the loom... then taped up afterwards in such a way that it looked like part of the loom.

So I ended up ordering a further section of loom for the actual heater box.

Have to say though.. I really dont know how they come up with their prices.... heres a rough idea,

Front loom - absolutely huge.. comes with the base for the fuse box.. wires that run behind the slam panel, to abs unit.. inside the car passenger side down into the footwell, and drivers side to the fusebox and switches under the steering column, wires to the ABS sensors at the back of the car, sensor under the drivers seat, and electronic unit under the heaterbox in the centre console.

£180

Dash loom - Relatively small in comparison, and just runs behind the dash going to the switches at the top eg hazzards... passenger airbag disable switch passenger and driver airbag, audio unit, clocks, cigarette lighter, etc

£299.20

Ironic thing as well.. first loom they supplied which was incorrect - no audio connections for 1 thing.. was actually half that price @£150 roughly.. so for a few extra wires and connectors the price doubles.

then you get an even smaller loom still.. probably smallest major loom on the car.. the engine loom (which I didnt order btw, as there seems to be nothing wrong with the existing loom.)

£300

but, I did have to order a really small section of loom.. which just runs from the fusebox, and has 2 connectors on the end connecting to the cooling fan... couldnt of been more than 2 ft long.

£31.14 - If I had the connectors and knew how it was wired up and had the stuff available I could of probably made it for under a tenner.

and the heater loom...

£38.93

and the bulb holders...

£15.49.

Again.. for whats in it.. maybe £5 worth of stuff.

Hopefully thats everything, Engine was running fine, so the engine loom should be ok.. dont really like the cost of it lol at £300.. and the rear loom just connects to the front door doing things like electric windows, electric mirrors, fuel pump, sender, and rear lighting. which was all working fine anyway.. and doesnt appear to of been messed about too much, as it is in a reasonably good condition.

There is a bit in the drivers footwell which needs tidying up, because it was chopped about for the alarm but seeming as its only a minor loom in comparison to the front and dash loom im hoping I can get away with tidying those wires up with some solder and shrink wrap, dont want to replace another £300 loom unless its necessary, but least if it does need doing the dash doesnt need to come out just seats and carpet so its an easy one to do.
Good job the car was cheap to begin with! Just hope theres no more nasty surprises..still need to wait and see what hapens with the body computer and the abs unit...will know this week if those are scrap or not.

Least its now slowly coming back into a safe and good condition. But I didnt really want to start chopping up a brand new loom.. so all the extra bits of loom couldnt be avoided. Let just hope it all works lol.

*** UPDATE ***

Hi, just a quick update, everything is now back in the car.. car has stopped coming up with a fault saying "Engine Failure" on the dashboard now, City button seems to work.. although theres no light coming up on the dashboard.

All the wiring should be alot safer now lol its all new, and in alot better condition than before. So no fire hazard!.. proper battery for the car and battery box as well.

However:( speedo is still not working.. and I cant see any kind of visible signs of the ASR button doing anything.. when I press it nothing lights up.
with the city button.. is there even a light on the dash? I was told there was.

if so might just be a blown bulb.. although its definitely working.. steering goes all light.

Next port of call will be to get the ABS unit repaired I think.. seemin that provides the speed signal.. and traction control.. which is probably why the ASR button doesnt work... also dealer said before they had alot of trouble communicating with the ABS.. sometimes the diagnostic equipment would connect.. sometimes it wouldnt. so this all points to the ABS unit, more so than the body computer.
