Thumbs down 2 weeks after head gasket change. exhaust smokes at high rev then idle smoke.

i hadn't started it for 2 days until today, initial start showed alot of smoke go past me as i was in driver seat of course. no smoke out of exhaust till 5mins of idle and some revving to 4-5k revs. then pretty smokey at idle. ALOT of water(?) in the back muffler aswell?making splashin sounds. but that might just be condensation cos of the rain and the car being under a cover for 2 days, no water has left the cooling system it seems...
is it burning oil ?
i'll try it again later as the car has never done this before since the head gasket change. (i bought it with a very bad gasket)

has it had an oil and filter change after the head gasket. do this especially if water went in the oil. because it could be the water evaporating off out of the oil.

Colour of smoke would also help. Blue = burning oil white = water black usually = too much fuel.

Thanks for the reply. but i drained oil and new filter was added after the change. there was none of these symptoms for 2 weeks... so i dunno if it can be old coolant. but it is a shocking amount of liquid in the rear muffler, i jiggle it and it slushes

It was pretty white but grey at times i think
I put my hand over the exhaust to see if it got wet as the smoke only starts after revving alot and operating temp is gained. it might be the liquid steamin in the exhaust?? but i dunno how that liquid got in there! it sloshes

I think my cat needs replacing, could that be causing this though?
Almost nothing has been replaced since the car was built i think lol, except tyres and (i hope) brakes!

Re: 2 weeks after head gasket change. exhaust smokes at high rev then idle smoke.

If it was valve stem seals then you would see lots of blue smoke when you first start the car after it has been standing a while, and also when you pull of after sitting at lights or a junction iirc. If the smoke is white/grey then I would bet on water. You need to find where the water in the exhaust is coming from. My punto had a blitzed hg and water was running straight down the exhaust through an open valve. If the hg has just been changed though I would be surprised if it was that.

it might be stem seals.. dunno. it smoked alot for a few seconds after starting it from 2 days being left un touched. now it just starts smoking once it warms up though. i checked the spark plugs and very oily around the rims of them. i think the smoke is blue though.. took me a while to realise as it isn't smoking enough to be a thick smoke and a distinct colour
Thanks for the reply

I replaced the valve stem seals, refit everything nicely... and the symptoms have not gone. same as before?! argh! how is it burning oil? it was cylinder 2 i saw which had oil in it and on the inlet manifold and exhaust.
i'm gonna have to dump this car as i officially given up on her : (
