check out the guides section, should be in there. i wanna do this myself :)
it is terrible design that there's no temp guage! argh!

Has anyone ever fitted a stand alone temperature gauge? if so which one did you fit and how easy was it,i dont like the idea of waiting for a red light which by that time could be too late.

I'd say the EASIEST option would be to get the dash from a SX and just get the temperature sensor from the SX aswell and hey presto it's done.

thanks for that---- i will try '247 spares' to see if they have the parts you
suggest.

i got a dash with rev counter and temp gauge on it spare sitting in the garage, you will have to buy new dials, i started putting white ones in and couldnt be bothered anymore but would be happy to sell these to someone

Any idea how easy the wiring would be?---- thanks
No wiring required... just replacing the dash and replacing the sensor. what car are we talking about anyways?? lol mk1?
if so you'd have a non-working rev counter/tachometer as well so If you want to know the wiring for that I can tell ya. but it is all in this guide anyway !

its a basic 2002 mk2 1.2 8v------ i was thinking of making a remote bracket (just to house a temperature gauge) to fix just below the dash as i didnt really want to disturb anything if i didnt have to.---- thanks

Is what i am suggesting a difficult thing to do?-- as the wiring would be new and not existing---i am really keen to have a temperature gauge in this car but dont want to disturb the dashboard.

It would mean breaking into the coolant system somewhere to install a t-piece connector with a seperate temperature sensor in it. You would need to run wires from a 12v source to this and from it to the display in the cabin.

It would probably be better to swap dashboards and temperature sensors with a higher spec model, however on a mk2 i believe you need to then take it to fiat to have the milage reset on the dash.

No, all you'd need to do is find out which is + and - from the dashboard for the temp sensor and just splice it or just cut those wires and move it to the new gauge or whatever you want to use. but the old clocks will have to come out to gain access to the wiring

If you have a Mk2a and you want the Tachometer(rev counter) and Temperature for coolant, all you need it this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/fiat-punto-mk...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item4a9f05c083

Instructions for fitting:
Disconnect negative terminal on battery (Black)
Unscrew dash surround
Unscrew Instrument cluster
Take old cluster out and unplug
Plug new cluster in and reverse steps
Done.
All you need to do now is take it to a Fiat Dealer to get a "Proxy alignment", which will stop the mileage from flashing. This will be about 60~ depending on the dealer.
You don't need a new temperature sensor, you don't need to fiddle with wires and you don't need to ruin your dash.

The thread starter wants to mount a seperate gauge... not use dash from a higher spec model

thanks for your reply------- i didnt realise that the mk2 conversion is a lot simpler to do than on the mk1,that was why i was thinking about just mounting a remote temperature gauge--------but having also read the thread 'Dials conversion' with fitting instructions---i think i might follow your suggestion---- thanks again.
