hey i was just wondering if you could help me with this problem.
i dont know alot about cars just yet lol still a Learner driver lol.
My fiat punto 1998 drivers side window won't work but my passenger side does... strange lol.
I had this problem when i first brought my car but it suddenly started working again after a few days (maybe i slammed the door in a mood with my parents, you know how it is learning lol)
I mean my dads a barber... not a man to ask about things like that lol i know more about cars than him lol.
I dont really wanna go pay at the garage as it maybe something i can do easily... im quite handy with these things for a girl

Please please help ive looked through threads but they arent very specific.

Does it do anything at all when not working? Is it slow when it is working?
Simple first thought check would be that it's actually plugged in properly and contacts are clean and dry.

The buttons can just pull out the door...if not and it is the motor, they cost next to nothing from scrappy's and is dead simple job...even for a girl

Sounds like a loose connection if it stopped and started again, hav to check the electrical line to the door. Most likely at the door joint

It doesn't do anything at all when not working. But the passenger side electric window works, do they run on the same motor? if so it couldn't be the motor if one elec window works.

No, they are seperate mechanism's so they can go on just one side...but more likey, seeing as it started working when you slammed the door, that the wiring is loose. I would start with the button and work along from there

well yesterday i took the black connection bit that connects to the door from the car out and had a look inside, looks fine so i tried blowing in it etc a few times n connected it back, still no difference. So il have to have a look at the wiring inside of the door, so do i just unscrew the inside of the door n the wiring is behind that? xx

The switch on your door handle will just pop off, slip a knife under it carefully and pop it out. Check pins are connecting properly and are clean.

Taking the door off is easy, screws at bottom and by leaver to open also on the main handle there's a couple, then pull off from the press stud things inside, careful you don't break them and lift away and upwards....but you have to pop the switch off to get the card of anyways, so do that first

undone all the door... got a garage round the back of my house, the garage bloke had a look quickly... said theres no electric going to the motor. The window is stuck half way down and its pouring hard of rain ahhhh!! and the garage is busy for like the next 2 weeks.
what to do....? lol
we can't even push up the window !

Have you checked the connection is good to the battery?

we even tried to put sum electric to the switch.. dont really know what he did.. put smal wires from my main carr battery to the wiring on my side of the door... said no electrics going to it even that way... dnt have a clue whats faulty. He only had like 10 mins to have a look so dont think he got far into figuring out the problem lol

my motor etc is like behind a metal caging if you get what i mean, so i cant really see much when trying to look at the electric cables etc. The car manual is a loada poopey lol. This is so frustrating... was supposed to drive to like 110 miles away tomorrow so my dad can collect his new shape cadillac.... but nooooo bludy car window is busted and now all the door paneling etc is taken off. omgggg lol
Im usually good at this kinda stuff, ive built parts of pcs etc, im not bad at electrics. But why do fiat make these things so awkward lol.
its like 60 quid an hours work at the cheap garage ! not including parts theyll have to order. Im literally skint

...sexism at it's finest, being half Italian and a girl I think I should refrain from further comment on this...esp seeing as I am a moderator Dunno how I manage between having me nails done and sitting on a sunbed

The motor is easier to sort if you take the whole of the regulator off...the whole of the long bit of metal that the window runs up and down..there is a bolt each end and one in the middle I think...cant remember, but is easy to suss...then just wiggle it out the hole in the door.

You will need to unclip the window from it first and gently lower it into the bottom of the door.

and excuse me women can do a much better job than men at most things...and can multitask...and why do men pay more for car insurance? because they cannot drive as well as women lol

okies il have a try at that tomorrow il have a look to try understand what you mean . So i shouldn't unbolt the metal panel? just try to get the thingy through the whole lol? ow myyy:bang:
might go down the scrappy tomorrow look for a new motor regulator thingy, thats what most people are saying is most probably the problem.
but it seems to be a connection problem to me but i cant get to all the wires because there behind the metal cage.
im gonna get up earrrllly and spend most of my day trying to sort out this window, rather do that then waste lots of cash at the garage. A new cooling fan cost me 200 quid + fitting from the good garage round my area, and that was only a few weeks ago. this cars costing me more then i brought the thing for lol only 900 and ive spent like 300 already... will be more when i get the oil leak fixed and this window if i cant do it myself :bang::bang::bang:

I'm not sure what metal panel you are on about...if you are on about the inside of the door...the cage thing as you called it...then you cant remove it anyways.

The bit you wanna get out...looks like this...



Even if it isn't the problem...then it dont cost much at the scrappy's so is worth a try. The window is held on at the bottom with a little clip thing that you have to pull top off and then remove the plastic pin thing away from the hole in the glass.

btw make sure you get right for your car...ie 3 or 5 door they are different

im so paranoid that my cars going to get stolen, i cant even push the window up. Hence why im still up even though ive got to get up at 6 am.
wish i knew someone who could come round and take a look at my car tomorrow would be easier if a friend knew a lot about cars, may have a ring round mates see if they know anyone that knows alooot about cars.
Its kinda hard to like explain things on here etc lol.
il check everything out again tomorow before i take that motor bit out though, what a hastle this window is.
wish i had manual windows now

you can shut it....detatch it from regulator, push window up and shove a bit of wood in to hold it up.

And honest, is an easy fix...and you might get it out tomorrow and find that it's just loose connection

i live in folkstone.. sorta near canterbury and dover but its rough... lots of chavvy skanks who would steal my car lol. My own next door neighbors kid punctured my dads tyres and scratched his car.. because he thought it was funny.
ive been trying to get to sleep since like 10ish lol but im sooo paranoid about the bludy car window . why did i buy the first car i viewed? i do not know.
