My Punto has started comup with three warning lights on startup - the yellow engine management light, the red temperature light and the red 'steering whee;' light (or whatever it's called. They stay illuminated for a few seconds after starting and then go out. They only started doing this the other day.

Does anyone know what this might mean? I've check the oil and coolant, and the levels are fine, and it seems to drive ok. Had a new engine management system fitted about 6 months ago.

If they go out then there's nothing to worry about.

EML could be a million and one things.
Temp light could be a dodgy sender.
PAS is a failed unit, could be a sensor or the motor.

But as said, if they go out then it's not an issue...

It could also be linked to a poorly charged battery.

I had a the steering light on my mk2 go on and off intermittantly for a few weeks. I was told not to ignore it as it would lead to worse issues later on. However I took the car on a good run out and it never happened again since.

Most of my driving is just short trips and the battery needed a good charge is all.

Is engine manegment the yellow light above the green dpped beam light? or what is this, every now and then when i turn my lights on it illuminates, but as above goes out, i guess nothing to worry but shouldnt happen really

Any idea why on our punto the oil light & yellow engine management light stays on when the ignition is turned off but goes out when the ignition is turned on?

Keep an eye on your steering light, just had steering column on my MK2 replaced and same happened on my 04 plate panda a few years back. I have come to the conclusion either I am cursed with power steering or is a very common fiat problem across models.

Yup the dual drive PAS has many issues across many models.

And as for the oil and engine lights, I thought these were supposed to stay on with the key in 'mar' position and then go off with the engine started. Mine does anyway.

i am aobut to inherit a mk2 punto but the engine management light is on, and stays on throughout the drive. any ideas?

yeah it's my girlfriends one and she's gonna get it scanned by the person that serviced it as it has only appeared after she got it serviced

My engine management light came on & i took it to get read & that was no help! went through a million different things spark plugs, ht leads etc turned out to be my cat. On the subject of warning lights my oil light flashes on and off while travelling any ideas?:)

examiner or any dsiagnostic code reader is only a guide, its foolhardy to believe everything it tells you! You have to prove the fault otherwise its only a guess.

a experienced tech would of spotted the downstream lambda readings and diagnosed a faulty cat straight away.
