Hi there,

Was wondering whether anyone had any ideas on the following problem. I have just changed the ECU, body computer, ignition barrel etc of my X 2000 reg punto for one's I purchased second hand. Car starts up which is fantastic! But the power steering is not working and the power steering light and temperature light is on on the dash.

The car previously had another second hand ECU on it (which I lost the one and only key for) and the power steering worked fine. Could it be I have accidently disconnected something? Also, the second hand ECU I purchased this time came with a new dash - which is different to mine (it has a rev counter and temperature gauge on it) - I don't suppose this has anything to do with it?

Thanks in advance.

I dunno about the power steering but the temp guage problem will be a disconnected wire to the coolant temp sensor.

Its screwed into the thermostat and when the ecu detects it as fault (or not connected) it defaults and says the cars overheating.

And if the original dash didn't have a temp guage on (I've never seen a car without one, but you live and learn) then it's possible that the wire either doesn't exist, or is tucked away in the loom somewhere.

Thanks for that guys.

Any ideas on the power steering? Do you think its a fault on the ECU?

On the mk2's the sensor is already wired up as it tells the car what the coolant temp is and the dash's just swap out between the simplier (just speedo and fuel guage) and the full dash's (temp guage + rev counter etc....)

The sensor has probabily been knocked or not put back right when the ecu was changed.

So what MK dash have I got then? And would this suggest to anyone that the power steering is not compatible with the ECU?
