can anyone tell me what the thing does thats bolted to the bulkhead as there is some kind of fuel breather pipe that goes into it and the pipe needs replacing as it has splits in it. what im on about is at the top right of this pic.
the car is running a bit poor on tickover at the min, bit low and wandering to near stall. i dont know what could be wrong with it, some kind of fuel starving or something, i have changed the timing belt, waterpump and coolant. before i changed these things the car was running fine (well till the waterpump went anyway). when filling the heater matrix i sprayed water allover with the hosepipe like a rite puddin and the car has not really run right since. driving it seems fine just like before and the timing is bang on as ive checked it about 5 times. its had new plugs, leads, fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter, cam seal, rocker gasket and coolant, ive done it all myself and thought things were all good and then this!! :bang:

its the metal thing on the right, it has plugs and wires going into it. there is also a piece of tubing going from cylinder 4 intake port to this metal thing and i need to know what the tube is for (breather?) as mine is split and i need to know if its this that is making my car run rough on tickover.

The tube with like grooves/lines across it? its mean to be split it just a wiring cover

Used to have a scenic which had a vacuum pump in a similar position, the hose was split on that and it caused rough running.

If the split is at the end and you have some slack, take it off and chop the end off and refit.

Split breather will make it idle poorly.

Check the hosing from the airflow sensor too.

think you know what im talking about richie.guy, i can really explain it much better. if you zoom in on the pic you can see the hose coming from the top of no 4 cylinder inlet port and follow it and it goes up and into the thing (whatever it is?) on the bulkhead. ive got a bit of hose from a breakers yard im going to put it on tomorrow if it dont rain. where is the hose on the airflow meter then that i should check and do you think from this hose being split thats why i can smell petrol in the car all the time?

Just circle it on paint or something? Would be so much easier than a guessing game

no idea what the hose is mate soz, but ive got a poor idle speed, every so often mainly at lights, the revs will drop as if to puurrrr/tickover, then as it reachs that point it revs back up and will drop again it will do this 5-6times and after the 6th time the engine will slow creep all the way up the revs untill i knock it off at the ignition and restart the engine. It somthing im trying sort, sounds like somthing worn or going as it only happens every now and then. im thinking it mite be the stepper motor maybe, air leak or just worn? as far as i can see all the hoses are ok and its the only thing i can think of that controls the tickover.

it,s a vac just replace it or if it,s at the end trim it off and refit
