Is it possible to disable the key coding from the Engine management system? Reason behind this question is, I have a HGT with only 1 key, tried to get a replacement from Fiat but somehow the code that matches my chassis number doesn't fit my car, their only solution is to spend £300 on a new lock set! As I see it even if I do this what's to stop Fiat making an other mistake and my, and presumably someone else’s keycode being wrong again. I could get a key cut just to open the locks, but wouldn't start the car or deactivate the alarm. I am wanting replace the Fiat system with a separate Thatcham alarm, is this possible?

I'm not sure if it's possible to remove the Fiat system completely.

My alarm is in addition to the fiat key chip so it's simpy a 'bolt-on' and doesn't replace any existing part.

i'd try another dealer to make sure, it is possible that they made a mistake when noting your chassis no. (i presume this was to get your code card)

on my seicento, i needed a new ecu cause i blew the old one up, but when he tried to put the code back into it, they couldnt, so now i have no immobiliser, hes not sure how he did it, but it looks like it can be done

After months of trying finally given up on replacing the key, Fiat sent three different keys all wrong! They tell me it's possible that someone ordered a new lock set and it was never fitted! So now I have a choice, replce the lock set £376 or take out insurance against loosing my keys, for £40 for two years, this cover upto £1000, so guess which I went for?

Also if your imobiliser isn't working I was told that there is a unique identifier for the Alrm, immobiliser, fitted in between the ECU, so you may need this replacing? Cost for the punto is £120+ fitting prbably cheaper to have a separate one fitted?
