D'oh!

Was topping up the oil (it was just at the minimum end of the dip stick level) and my funnel slipped and some oil missed the topup hole. It dripped down the back of the engine (towards the dipstick) and some went into the spark plug hole.

I whipped out the plug and the bottom 2mm or so had (new) oil on it. What will happen if i put the plug bag in and start the engine? Bad things :(?

If it's not recommended to start the engine with oil in a spark plug hole, how the hell do i dry it out? :(

Just remove as much excess as possible and replace.

It's not ideal but you can't exactly justify removing the head to clean it!

Buy a few tins of compressed air and blast it down the hole. hopefully the oil will shoot up into the surrounding area where you can wipe. hopefully.

I've seen it recommended with classics that are going to be laid up for some time, to take the 'plugs out and put a drop of oil in the bores to stop things seizing up.
I shouldn't think this would cause any harm whatsoever.

Cheers guys :)

I tried to get as much oil out as possible... a rag wasn't cutting it, so had the bright idea of sticking a (clean) tampon in the hole. Muppet here dropped the string and lost it (n) Finally managed to get it out and car started like a dream!

Today's Good Advice - don't stick tampons in spark plug wells
