Hey there mate.
I did this a few months back and they turned out great :)
Sand the handle down with fine wet and dry paper (900 or 1200) will be great so it leaves a smooth finish but at the same time removing all the years of dirt and grime from hands etc.
Then take your time masking the surrounding area, first just do strips of tape, then newspaper.
Use plastic primer (any colour) (2/3 coats)
Use Your colour code (3 coats)
Laquer in very slight doses (?) as in very light coats, do not what ever you do think that one heavy coat will work as it won't and your masterpiece will run and you'll be so annoyed (Lots of experience).

In between caots allow 15 mins per primer
and 30 mins between each colour code spray
in between laquer coats 15 mins

Wait for the Colour code layer to harden off over night THEN do you laquering.
Hope this helps you

thats a great help going to have to this over the weekend when i dont need my car as much, how long do i leave it once i put the laquer on?

so like after the third coat leave 15 mins then they should be ready to use?

NO, don't touch it at all for at least 24hours and even then be really careful as it may remain slightly tacky for up to 48-72hours depending on brand of lacquer, weather etc.

some people also give them a light rub after a week of the lacquer drying, in a rubbing compound or even brasso (liquid) if the surface requires it. but most of the time they are ok if you take you time and are very patient even though you really want to push for that extra coat (don't do it, i've done it before and had to start all over again:cry:)

as i use my car everyday, im thinking about buying a spare handle, so that i can take the handle i want to paint, off the car and then replace it with this spare one, is it easy to take the handles off? and will one handle fit all the doors?
thats probably a stupid question, but im unsure,
thanks

Karbine, I am looking at spraying my spoiler in another thread, how far away do you use the spray from?
