ok another problem has started to worry me with my punto. thi 1 sounds quite majour :bang:
ok so when i start the engine and leave it nutral nothings sounds rong. put it in gear.still nothing rong. then as i set off in first i get a squeeling noise coming from the front on both sides. it does this in 1st 2nd 3rd. up until i reach 20mph+ in any of them gears realy. not tryed first so it may still squeek.
my g/f's step dad recons it may well be the drive shaft as realy it only does it when i set off. and iv also herd it a lil when i started to reverse once.
when the car pics up temperature this still dont stop the noise when i set off ( mentioning that because some noises can go after engine warms up). this is the reason why the step dad recons its the drive shaft. his brother unaware of the problem got in my car. when the squeel started the step dad asked his brother what the noise sounds like. he said i dunno maby drive shaft. so iv had 2 people say MABY drive shaft, but i want to ask you experts what this may be before i take it to a garage.

:idea:have ya tried checking brakes?you might have warped discs?"just a suggestion"

I'm also getting something similiar, but I also hear it when I make a 'sharp-ish' turn.

If you find out what is causing it, let me know please. (y)

it wont be the brakes as iv only just changed them (discs and pads).
the noise doesnt come when im turning a corner. its basicly just as i move away untill 20mph + but can sometimes go if i change gear at low revs. iv shaken both my front wheels to see if they are loose to check the barings but the wheels dont wobble or seem loose.
duno how to realy explain the noise.....erm... maby if you had a mouse runnin in a wheel to get you car going and it was squeekin like a mad'n.
or its even simular to a squeeky wheel barrow wheel.
or even if your suspension is a bit squeeky.
bit like them noises realy.
i no its not my suspension however.

thats the problem iv got, like a loud squeal?

been told its the tyres  (very unlikely)

and the power steering pump over working (hmmm)

i thaught it could be the driveshavt or CV joint but apparantly that makes a knocking noise

i dont recon its my brakes as iv just had all new and theres no noise from them when i brake. i cant see the power steering making a noise that loud.
my partner seems to explain it as when u rub something realy wet agains some thick rubber lol. i wouldnt say that realy. more like something mettal thats wet rubbing again something else metal maby. i dunno its baffling my head

did it do it before the brakes were changed? if not all things point to something rubbing thats todo with the brakes or that been disturbed when the rbakes were done.

If the noise was there before the brakes were changed then start investigating driveshafts etc. .

the noise wasnt there before i changed the brakes however its been about 6-8 weeks since i changed them and from when the noise started. plus wouldnt they squeek when i brake (as they dont) rather than when im setting off? plus it doesnt sound like the high pitch brake squeel you usualy get.:confused::confused:

iv still not sussed this out yet. 1 of my mates say it could be the alternator belt slipping. so iv been out and got a new belt. just need to fit it. im pritty sure its not the belt causing the squeeling but its due for a new belt anyways.

probably is a worn alternator belt. While your on check when all your fluids were changed last ( oil, coolant, brake fluid ) much loves.
il be changing the belt sometime today or tomorow. so i will let you no if it works.
as for fluids i do always keep on check with them and top them up.whenever i open the bonnet i check them lol.

i changed the belt. noise still there. but the cars in the garage today as the clutch is being changed and theyv told me the gearbox is leaking oil on the clutch. so could this be the noise? as someone mentiond it may be gear box before.

Sounds like either the homokinetic junction (I dunno if this is how you call it there, it's a part between the driveshaft and the differential) or you may have a defective cam belt tensioner... I'd suggest checking those two!

You can discount Power steering pump, its electric on a punto, its a motor not a pump.

So this is still a posibility?

ahh, thanks for the info :)

I have only recently had my CAM belt and bearing replaced (december)

Oil/filters/spark plug change about 2 weeks ago

but i only noticed it after i got it back from the garage (who i would definatly not go near again!) after they did work on the steering, driveshaft, CV joint, replaced wheel and bearing and other things (passenger side)

well when the garage changed my clutch, wouldnt they have told me that there was sumat wrong with the driveshaft if there was as they gotta take that off to get the gearbox, clutch off???
