Hi,

I Couldn't engage any gears whilst the engine was running but could when the engine was not running. I assumed it was the clutch so I have changed the the clutch but still cant engage the gears while the engine is runnig. Couls it be the slave cylinder (how much travel is there suposed to be on it) the pedal was very stiff before but it isn't anymore.

Any help would be appreciated Thanks

It is usual for the clutch pedal to lighten up if you put in a full clutch kit since the new release bearing is usually smoother than an old one.

As for your problem though, I am not sure. It definitely sounds like the clutch is sticking if you can engage when the car and engine are stationary (i.e. same speed). I am afraid I have never personally replaced a clutch, so I cannot advise on any internal problems.

Hi I have tried that it seems to go throygh its full travel and there are no signs of oil leaks.

I have disconnected the slave and moved the clutch with a pair of grips still can't engage clutch with engine running.

Could it be the gearbox?

it could be the clutch fork,or slave cylinder i had my cluth changed today an i cost me 200 quid, thats not including the 150 for a new gearbox(that was f**ked as well)i got the car back about 2 hours ago(y)

The clutch fork move fully and the clutch cylinder fully extends, so thats ruled them out. I am going to check the gearbox oil level today.

Does anyone know

1. were the filler plug is located
2. were the level plug is located
3. how much and which grade of oil to use

Thanks

the filler is on the gear box(a small circle cap what just pulls off)an the level plug is just on the side of the box(its a big alan key bolt)i'l put sum pics on later if ya want me to?an the oil is synthetic-based gear oil, viscosity sae 75w-80 ep to api gl5

I have checked gearbox oil level and it only needed a drop.

tried car again still goes into gear when engine stopped but wont when engine running. if you start while in gear with the clutch pressed down it try to move.

So have I installed the clutch wrong (which I am pretty sure I haven't) or is it stuck in gear or is the gearbox knackered.

Not sure what to try next

Hi I cant really say but I had the same problem with a Laguna that I owned and it turned out to be the gear box, but I could be wrong, best thing to do would be to take to a clutch specialist and get them to have a look, it was my local clutch centre that confirmed my gearbox was shot. I hope its not the case but bet to check before you spend any more monayz. Good luck.

Dave,

Checked the release bearing by disconnecting the slave cylinder removing the rubber stop covering the timing markers, the with a tourch moving the arm backwards you can see the release bearing is sitting correctley between the fork.

To Gearbox and clutch off today and found I had put the friction plate on the wrong way round put it all back together and all ok now.

Thanks for all your help.
