Im trying to get a spare key for my daughters car,its a Fiat Punto 54 plate active sport.
Im reading in places the only way is thru Fiat and costing between £80 and £180. This seems very expensive. I hope to god theres another way.
Its a bit unfair the only way to get a key is thru them directly.

ive put a pic of the key up in case it helps

Ive also read in some places that u can get them thru key makers like a locksmith maybe,i dont really no,im clutching at straws here.

any help appreciated

no sorry the only way to get them is through a fiat dealership. as they have to code it properly so they work with the car. there is a recent thread on this which explains it better.
hope that helps

Dave- even the pre 2000 models couldn't be stolen unless you had the key!,
though you could copy it, but then you have the key anyway so why bother.

Did look at this myself a year or so back and basically you can buy the keys aftermarket. They have transponders which are part programmable and part
pre-programmed. The pre-programmed portion cannot be over written so this must be written into the BSI unit (by diagnostics). The unprogrammed part is supplied by Fiat and can be programmed with proprietry equipment, it cant be read though which makes copying out of the question because of the huge
numbers required to find the codes.
There are locksmiths who can make a key and install it as Fiat do but it seems everyone wants a good cut after buying the expensive equipment.
I cant myself understand why this has been made so complicated when the
car theft problem had been overcome, ie you have to steal keys to get a car.

yeah some where like dodgy car wash or so could easy pop out an copy your key, whilst you was shopping, get your address off a letter or satnav left in car, an come steal your car later

You may be able to get the key copied but it still will need to be coded and you wont find a locksmith that will be able to do that.

Dave- I agree, I maintain that I lost a 2yr old vauxhall that way. Took it into dealers for service and it disappeared the next morning.
