Hi have a problem with my gearbox, if i say pull out of a junction fast or from standing start my gearbox sometimes crunches in 2nd gear. I have my foot flat down on the cluch and have selected 2nd correctly as it didnt do this before.

Syncro US'ed :(

Either get used to it and put up with it, or open wallet for re-con box (n)

Jon.
hi i bought a 1994 punto 55s 1.1i a few days ago and we have the same problem when the car is cold it doesnt crunnch but as soon as its warmed up it starts crunching in 2nd gear. at 1st i thought it was me as i had only just passed my test and was gettin used to drivin a different car but my partner tried doing and it did the same to him anyone know why this could be?????

Synchromesh which normally softens the gear shift has broken/is not as good as it was..

If you match the revs it wont crunch. Blip throttle on down changes and upchange quickly to avoid a crunch.

Defo Syncro Ring is on its way out i'm affraid

I had a Recon Box that wouldnt go into 3rd Without a fight and the 1st and 2nd gears were sooo sloppy it was a joke

I found skipping the gear was just easier ie 1st, 2nd, 4th

Or letting the revs drop down to idle and then try slotting it in, but by then i could be in 4th and moving off faster still

Ziggy

If it's synchro, the gears will connect but only when revs are matched. If its the selectors the gears wont connect and/or jump out. Either way, the only fix is a gearbox rebuild.

ok thanks ive been told by a few other people to try gearbox fluid if that dont work ill just get a new gearbox but the previous ownrr who had the car for 6yrs before me said it done the same thing the whole time she had the car she but she got used to it thanks for the help though

I had a BL Mini with zero synchro on 3rd gear. It was pain for a day or two, but I got used to it and never got it fixed.

If its really bothering you, check out the local breakers and when you fit the "new" box swap the clutch too.
