Hi there, really just want to flash what I've done to my punto. It has been a little over a year since I got it on a cold winters day, in the end of 07'. I will go ahead and apologise for the not so decent picture quality of most of the pictures. Don't use cameraphones!

I'm sorry I dont have a decent quality "before" picture, but this should do:

Front.jpg

Basicly it was total standard, like most cars ofcourse. Notice the boring old plastic mirros, yuck! :yuck:

Anyways, the bonnet had a tiny dent in the front next to the badge. I've seen alot of puntos with a dent like it. So that had to be fixed, a total respray, and removal of badge.

debadge.jpg

Debadge it is! dosn't that just look fantastic?

The next thing that I did was I fitted a lowering kit, 35mm/35mm. Got a very nice price on a set of Koni Springs, shipped from the UK to Denmark for about 900 dkr total. Thanks to the dropping value of the gbp.

It comes in a fancy box including a cd with all thier product specs. yay.

Fitting the front was a bit of a hasle, the ballbearing at the top of the suspension assembly (yeah technical terms is not my strong side) came apart and they went everywhere.

The rear was a breeze, 2 bolts, one on each side, and they drop.

So with that fitted the car really handles differently. It dosnt roll so much, and you have a greater feel for it overall. Atleast, that is how i feel it.
So, spring kit, 100% worth it!

Now a few months passed since the suspension fitting, and about two months ago I decided to paint my calibers. U know, it would soon be spring time, and come spring, come alloys. I decided on Yellow, as red is too mainstream :p

Ofcourse, first you have to clean. Painting your calibers is NOT a simple job. The kit I bought takes 24 hours to harden properly, but you will be able to fit it back together after just 2 hours.

Here is two pictures of the rear brake drums (curse the fact the mk2 dosnt have discs) Before and After cleaning with an electric wirebrush for 10 mins straight. Also got them sand blasted in a few spots, and hard to reach places.

Notice the poor quality of the picture, but you can clearly see a difference in shine! Now just gotta do another drum, and two oddly shaped calibers.

and boom!

A cuple of layers in, you have to brush it on as it is very thick.

One of the reasons for painting these was that my breakdiscs were worn down. They would shake really bad. So I bought a completely new set of discs and pads. But not just any discs!

Omni Competition makes these sweet looking, double vented and grooved discs, the same size as the original.

:worship: I jizzed....

So it is the end of january, and I have fresh painted breaks, yay.

Now, I bought my new alloys in mid september maybe. Do not do this, the suspense until fitting is almost unbearable. So I did this:

testfittingRims.jpg

:woot:Which didn't help with the unbearable part. Must wait a cuple of months. And so I did.

Then, just last week, came the rubber!

205/40-17 Yes, they were a pain to get on the rims, had my specialist brother do it !

Now I've read a great of punto 17 inch guides to know where they will most likely rub.

Here are som numbers:

4x100
ET 38 (a little more than ppl recommend, but its 3 mm, so no big deal)
7,5" Wide

With a box cutter, we agreed to remove some of the rear inside wheelarch.
A very simple job, anyone can do it. And now some pictures !

FittingDone.jpg

Just rolled out of the garage.

I have been running these wheels for about a week now, it will rub if you go over speedbumbs brutally. But other than that, it has rubbed twice since then. One time, full turn lock, front wheels rub. And the other time i had 3 people in the back, and one in the passenger seat. And it rubbed when i turned over a curb. So I think everyone should fit 17s as they just look so sweet !

Things I want to do, when i have some cash:

Fix rust and debadge tailgate
Rear Spoiler
Abarth Skirts
And build a decent setup for my stereo.
Spray the doorhandles
Remove the door dent protection thingies.

Also, in the year I have had the car I should mention the parts that I have replaced on it. (did i mention its a diesel?)

MAF
EGR Valve
Boost Valve
Clutch
Right side electric window motor assembly
Filter
Glowplugs
Clutch slave cylinder
Clutch main cylinder

And the clutch still goes flat and needs re-venting every month or so. (Battery holder out, Battery holder in)

I also fitted the meta remove locking system.
Replaced the gearknob with a leather sporting one.
Had it remapped to 108 bhp.
Fixed a few holes in the exsaust.

It is just a car you never get done fixing :yum:

Im surprised more poeple havent commented on this - it looks awesome!!!

It all goes together well, the bonnet, mirrors and alloys!

I really want to lower mine, probably same amount as yours, how easy was it to lower, say for someone not very technical lol I just think i might save alot but dont want to mess it up

First of all, Thanks ! :)

It's hard to say, I had a lift that i could use. But with a normal jack and some feet or w/e they are called to hold the front and then the back up.

All you really need is a decent set of tools and some spring clamps, it was easy for me because i had my "the mechanic" next to me knowing what to do.

But, anything is possible, i bet one could do it yourself, just read up on it in detail.

The front is the hard part, and we really had to be carefull getting the spring clamps off, they can break your arm if you are not careful.

Looks good for a 140k mile punto .. :)
Ive got a jtd from 2000 aswell .. anyway didnt you use spacers ?
Ive got 16" momo gt2 wheels (7.5" wide ) with 5mm spacers and 195/40 16 and it still rubber on the front when i turn the steering wheel .

Thanks, No spacers, mine also catches on the front. But only when I use full lock.

Those 5mm spacers should've done the trick for you :S

ET and tyre size matter most, wheel size doesn't effect things too much provided you don't go above 17 x 7.5

What ET/offset are the wheels?

Gj, that should have been the perfect amount. Could be you dont need the spacers then, and they might actually be causing the rubbing.
